A couple of boxes of Fed. HST 380 micro came home with me today. Both the wife and I have new 380 Auto pistols to break in. Will be giving this load a try along with other defense loads I find along the way, after giving them both 150 rounds of ball as an initial “cheap” practice and break in ammo. The price difference between 9mm and 380 is pretty big, but the smallest “wear it every time you put on pants” guns don’t come in 9mm. The wife’s new pistol is a little duty pistol downsized to fit her; a S&W M&P Shield ez 380. Cool little pistol that my wife feels confident in being able to rack the slide and perform smooth and quick magazine changes. As well as she shot her Shield 9 she never felt strong enough to be able to operate it in a bad scenario. Mine is the first LCP I’ve ever owned. NIB 10th Anniversary 2008-2018 w/ stainless slide. I expect it will work as well as all the other LCP’s I know of , which is boringly reliable. Some are even accurate to some don’t put a yardage to it distances ‘cause somebody’s gonna call you a lier. We’ll see which this one is.

FYI, the HST posted the second highest velocity and the highest recoil of any factory round that I tested in a .380 Shield EZ. 8 shot average of 1041 fps mv (ES 41). The only round that beat its velocity was the Speer Gold Dot at 1059 (ES 20), but that has a 90 grain bullet.

I’ve always carried the Speer Gold Dot load in my LCP 380. But the HST would be my second choice if I couldn’t find the Speer ammo locally.

With factory Gold Dots, I only got an 8 shot average of 955 out of a Glock 42, ES 42. I have a few boxes gathering dust on the shelf after putting them through a homemade barrier test. They expand great, but I was disappointed with the penetration. I have no way of knowing if they would work better or worse out of the .380 EZ or an LCP.
