No idea of actual costs of fuel (private (locally sourced) vs. military delivery), but did have a conversation with a LT Col/Col once regarding the cost of fuel to front line Military operations. (Fuel was his specialty)

Fuel flown (in tankers) from US (or ally nations) to Bases... then trucked to forward operations.

Don't recall if he said $25 or $50 a gallon, but whatever it was... the "handling cost" was the real killer expense.

Maybe the Private Airport has less "handling cost". No idea.

Please post up some actual fuel costs so we can understand your point better.

Shannon airport is hardly a small local airport, it’s the first airport you pass when coming across the Atlantic from North America so it’s always been used by a bunch of military aircraft as a refueling stop. If you’ve ever been deployed to Europe in the military you’ve likely been through Shannon. C-17’s we’re refueling there long before Trump got into politics. That’s why they have contract fuel which as Pugs mentioned is at pre-negotiated rates which are very cheap, they’re hardly getting rich selling fuel to the US military.

If you take a commercial flight to Europe 98% of the time your designated divert airport is going to be Shannon. It’s strategic location has made it a busy place a long time before Trump put a golf course in Ireland. That part of Ireland has been full of golf courses for a long time, Trump didn’t come up with the idea.

The whole idea that Trump is somehow steering military traffic there is ludicrous, we’ve been regulars there since WWII.

Geeesus, if you pay attention as you read the discussions on here, over time you realize there just isn't anybody here who has any morals or shame, so they have no grounds in which to berate others for lack of same. 50 years ago they were out getting drunk, doing acid, mushrooms or blow while fuucking anything that would spread it's legs and breaking the law with impunity. Now all they do is sit around and bitch about others that do the same, particularly if they are young or black or both.

My wife and I were in Ireland last May. Great trip. We landed in Dublin, but were told by the Irish people Shannon is the better place to fly into. Highly recommend Ireland. Everyone I know who has gone there would immediately go back if they could.
