But what we really need to know is . . . . . Which of the two bullets failed and why? Good shooting and nice elk.

jwp..,
Color me 'not surprised'. Those high dollar- penetrate -everything- bullets act just like solids. Have you used the TSX bullet? Just wondering, becuase everythign I have shot or seen shot wiht them have a large amount of internal damage.

Agreed. 180grn TSX in 300WSM was nasty on the insides of the deer my dad shot last fall. NASTY!

Heckuva nice bull, and very interesting forensic photography.
500 flat-faced 50-caliber grains at under 1000 fps are impressive, indeed.

Must take more shooting to understand that exit is appx double the bullet diameter, and exactly what the bullet is supposed to do. A FMJ, as long as its not tumbling or frag'd apart, will make a hole about half that size. IE 30 caliber.
I"ve yet to see an animal get away from any of the X bullets.
But we do allow folks to shoot ballistic tips in the US if they desire bang flops and want to see more damage than is really needed. That way they don't have to be as skilled at trailing...
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

Just wondering, becuase everythign I have shot or seen shot wiht them have a large amount of internal damage. Gate.., No sir, I have not used TSX's. Still have quite a few partitions around for my huntin' guns and even they are a bit much for the average whitetail - in my view. However, there are alot folks here who seem to value penetration over all else. Which makes me wonder why they don't just shoot military hardball. I like a little of both - expansion and penetration. TSX's seem to be very popular on this forum and when my stock of partitions dwindles, I'll likely give them a try.
