Very nice. It would be nice to be able to drive to a stand with a wheeled vehicle. I am finishing five new towers for hunting in the marsh. Our season opens soon. I will put the house on once they are in place. That’s just awesome!!!

What method do you use to put the blind on top of the stand? How do you raise it?

We will carry the stand in the marsh with an airboat and can stand them up by hand. We use 3/16 cables for guy cables in all four corners. The picture has tie down straps, but we swapped them out. After it is upright we pull frames, wall panels, etc up individually. Most pieces are precut and are bolted or screwed together. Cordless tools have made that process easier. Some people use chainsaw winches to stand the up. We have some that were knocked over during the last hurricane. Those are a little harder to stand up with the box on them. The amazing thing is I do not really enjoy deer hunting. I am a duck hunter, but that hunting has been terrible for several years. We have been leasing the same property for 46 years.

Mike,
Guesstimate of the weight of the 18’ frame?
I like it.
Need to build one. Though all i have is 2 7/8” tubing. So it’ll weigh a touch heavier than yours.
20 years ago when i was still in HS i built several stands. Box stands and ladder. Back then 1” 14ga square tube was like $6 a stick.

Two of us can carry one on dry ground. I would guesstimate around 250 pounds.
The legs are 1 1/4” s/40 pipe. The horizontal bracing is 1” s/40 pipe, the diagonal bracing is 3/4” s/40. The top frame is 2” by 2” by 1/8” angle.

Swamp hunting is interesting.
Do deer bed in that grass/water? Or they just traveling trough?
How do gators / deer get along? Lot of gators = scarce deer?

Mike: Thanks for the info. A good friend of mine has a ranch in W. TX and I helped him quite a bit with ranch work about a decade ago. This included erecting several elevated blinds - one on a 12' stand and 3 or 4 on 6' stands. The blinds were pre-made fiberglass units - pretty nice. on the 12 footer, If I recall correctly (it was a decade ago) I built and then laid the stand on it's side, bolted the blind to the top of the stand and then buried the two legs that were on the ground about 8"-12." I then tied a long, stout rope to the top of he stand, below the blind and the 3 Hondurans I had as a crew lifted the blind end as I pulled it upright with the truck. Pretty harrowing, but it went off without a hitch. We also used cable guy wires to hold it in place at all 4 corners and also one straight down from the middle of the floor of the blind.

Better watch out Mike..... there's a few fellows that will roast you for hunting out of a stand. They think the only way to 'hunt' is to walk in a few miles, climb on a ridge, glass the area, and put on a stalk. I'd like to see what their attitude would be if they waded around in the bottom or swamp for a while. Yeah, in order to be a “real hunter” you have to: 1 – Own a “Mystery Ranch, et. al” $500 backpack 2 – Own a super duper lightweight “backpacking” tent acceptable to all phaggot vegetarian fudgepackers. 3 – Own a stove to put in your super-duper lightweight “backpacking” tent, because being a vegetarian puzzy, and hardly any meat on their bones, they can’t handle the cold. 4 - Hunt on public land…ONLY. 5 – Lastly, you can only be a “hunter” if you’re a “backpack hunter” on public land,…BUT you can still call yourself a “backpack hunter”, and sleep in a hotel while you told everyone you lived out of your backpack, as long as you’re out on the road to the trailhead before they serve the morning breakfast buffet.

I prefer to have others carry my gear In warmer climates a hammock is the ticket, keeps you away from the gaboon vipers. You have to eat mostly raw monkey. After that you can hunt in a stand and sleep in a bed a night.

The porters ate the monkey. We were hunting in the birthplace of Ebola. I did not touch any primates.
Killed a couple of duiker and a sitatunga. They were excellent table fare.
Other than fresh meat it was Mountain Home food.

How do gators / deer get along? Lot of gators = scarce deer? They will bed down in the grass. Most of the marsh is not flooded so they are out of the water. There are wooded ridges along the bayous also. I am sure the big alligators kill a number of deer, but we seem to have healthy populations of both.
