What would you choose under $2000? 6.5 Creed. Something for stalking, and I already have the suppressor. Thanks

I would look for something that is already threaded 5/8"-24 to match the suppressor. I am not sure that that exists in a "mountain rifle" configuration. I am not keen on having to use an adapter to get up to the right thread size. Just one more thing to be misaligned and cause a baffle strike. Now, if you are using a QD suppressor that has options for multiple thread sized attachments, that is a different story.

The Fieldcraft is a no brainer, here. Not only does it balance well with a suppressor attached, it has an adequate shoulder to support the threads. I hunted most of 2018 with a suppressed Fieldcraft in 6.5 CM including a trip to Colorado.

Kimber Ascent would already be threaded, 7/16"x???. Would need a bushing to bump it to 5/8"x24 tpi. Christensen Arms web says Ridgeline barrels over 25 caliber are threaded 5/8"x24. No adapter needed. Should have sufficient shoulder to properly seat/support the suppressor. Not crazy about CF barrels. However, this is the reason I would prefer a Ridgeline over a Mesa in the CA line up.

Can you explain the QD comment?

I’m new to the suppressor game. Have had a Tikka chopped and threaded but must use an adapter. With my Silencerco Omega, I’d planned not to use their ASR attachment, since I won’t be moving it among different rifles. Would I be better off using it than a threaded adapter? Or wouldn’t I still need an adapter? Maybe not if I bought the ASR brake with correct threads?

Said another way, if bbl is threaded 1/2-28, is a 1/2-28 ASR brake with an ASR mount much preferred over a 1/2 to 5/8 adapter, with a direct thread mount?

Really can’t fathom why someone would want to add 12 oz. or so of weight and 7 in. or so of length to a mountain rifle.

What's your definition of mountain rifle?

I don’t think it’s that hard to “fathom”.

Once you start shooting everything with a suppressor, it’s hard to fathom hunting without one.

Agree 110%

I have owned a .308 Fieldcraft with 18” bbl threaded 5/8, 6.5 Cr with 21” featherweight barrel threaded 1/2”, and now have the 22” sporter 6.5 Cr threaded at 5/8”. If you want a 1/2 MOA mountain rifle that shoots as easily as a BR gun, put a silencer on a Barrett Fieldcraft.

For a mountain stalking rifle, 18” is probably your Huckleberry. Since I’m not stalking in the mountains, I went with the 5lb 7.4oz version with 22” sporter barrel. It is my (new) favorite firearm.

Just picked up my first fieldcraft today. It's a non threaded 6 creedmoor but I'm on the lookout for a threaded 7-08. I think the 18.5" 7-08 will be awesome. Especially since its an 8 twist with a 3" mag box.
