My son got his 1st bull on Saturday morning. Opening day of muzzle loader in Washington state. 2 miles from the truck behind locked gate. Nice 5x5 Roosevelt. He works for DNR so he is in the woods a lot and decided a couple of years ago to start elk hunting. He's had chances but something always happened but things went right this year. He was shooting a .50 knight.
Great bull and picture. Not sure that’s a Roosevelt though...weather looks too nice.😀
Rain doesn't usually start for a couple more weeks. He lives north of Portland about 45 minutes and he said it might hit 70 there today. Come rifle season in November it is usually horribly wet.
Yeah he was pretty excited. I've been elk hunting the last few years with him and another son but had to cancel this year due to a ruptured achilles tendon. Had surgery 3 weeks ago and wont get back to normal till the end of the year. So he had his brother with him. They're really close, both work for DNR and they're both in really good shape. But they said this was a tough pack out. Hated to miss this one.
Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.
Congrats to your son. You first kill is always memorable, but especially so with an elk! Darn nice bull, also! 👍 memtb

Beautiful bull! Lots of backbreaking work but lots of great meals right there. Is he going to do a Euro type mount or??
No. He's just going to mount on a plaque and cover the skull plate with a piece of nice leather. Here is a pic of both boys with the bull. The son on the left is a hunting fool. He spends a lot of his weekends out scouting, hiking, and setting trail cams. He got into another herd a couple of days later that had a nice bull but couldn't make it happen. He's back out this morning. He drew a cow tag for the late season which is in late November thru early December. Hopefully I will be able to get out with them then.
