I bought a 12,000 pound backhoe from a farmer (older Ford 450). Specs here... http://www.tractordata.com/backhoe-loader/000/2/0/202-ford-450.htmlWhat should I expect to have it delivered to my property (62 miles one way)? Tappahannock, VA to Stafford, VA Put up a ticket on UShip, but the offers I have been getting seem crazy high.

Call one of your local tow companies with a slide-back and ask them how much they would charge you to go get it?
That'll give you some idea of the bids you're getting are too high, or not.

I just had a "handicap 18 passenger bus" towed 178 miles last week locally last week. They had to use a slide-back truck, cost was 165 bucks pick up and 5 bucks a mile. No idea what the bus weight is, but that should give you an idea on your cost.

Most guys are $65-$75/hr on this side of the mountain. That would be 4hrs or more so probably $350-$400 tops. Forget uship. Call a couple small excavators close by. Call the local cat/John Deere/whatever dealers. They'll have local guys that haul for them.

I would expect to pay $80.00 - $100.00 an hr for a truck port to port. Say 3-4 hrs, $400.00 ish.
I sure could go for some $2.50/gal gas and a mean tweet!

There's a John Deere dealer on RT.360 as you come into Tappahannock from Mechanicsville. I'd try them. There's also a cop that likes to set up radar right there where the speed limit goes from 60mph to 35mph and bust idiots pulling a boat to the Bay going 30 mph over at 4:30am the first day of the Rockfish opener, and the judge in Tappahannock is a HARD ass!

UShip quotes got as high as $1,250...

Gambling on a cheapskate haul could get terribly expensive in case of an accident. A trailer heavy enough to haul the rig safely, a truck big enough to tow (and stop) it, and someone experienced enough to make the haul without a lot of drama won't come cheap. How much are you willing to risk that something won't go horribly wrong if you pick the first guy who gives you a lowball price? Jerry
