Any branch of the service. remember any friends you made in the service?

I made contact with a buddy of mine a couple years back. There are more I sure like to see again.

I think the lack of responses speaks volumes. I'm proud to have served but my service life was not a happy time.

Yup. I probably made more and closer friends in AK than I did anywhere else. Probably because Alaska tours were 3 years or more.

Got a few in LE in AK and elsewhere I keep in touch with and others I say "Hey" to when we are in the same training clases. We are all starting to retire out of our post-Army careers now.

For years the only friends I had were veterans. Living in the San Francisco made me feel I was a pariah.

Then came the 'Fire and now I have virtual friends.

So of my old comrades have done well in the service. Two made Colonel, and a young Captain I worked for is now a Three star (Lieutenant) General. Some of them are no longer with us, killed in combat or murdered in the States. A couple have killed themselves. The service life can exact great tolls on a person.

My old platoon sergeant sent his son to work with me and ensure that I make it to retirement. He remembers me.

I run into people all the time around here.
They remember me.
I have problems remembering names
Have ta ask people a DTG and unit to freshen up in my mind who they are if i didnt deal with them directly everyday.

Cant help it
11 duty stations in 24 yrs versus someone coming up to me who only had 1 dutycstation in their enlistment.

Happens alot.

Now guys that i was a squad leader or platoon sgt with i remember.
Or guys in my squads or platoon.

Guys that were in companies or battalions i was in .
I have problems remembering until filled in a little by them

I feel bad sometimes i dont instantly reconginize someone who sees me

But i dealt with alot of people.

Have had alot of close friends retire in other states.
A few have kicked the bucket at too young of an age those ph calls suck.
Have gotten calls outta the blue for job references.
Sf 86 background check stuff.
Holiday calls.

Living around Ft campbell you are always running into people you know or known.
One of my friends from the 187th owns one of the best LGS in town.
All his employees kinda wondered why me and their boss fugg with each other all the time when i go in looking for stuff.
They have learned if i want something i will make dave do it for me
Just ta fugg with him a little.

For the last few years I have gone to Florida fishing with 2 Marines from my first tour, along with two other guys we were in 1/10 with.

We drink more beer than catch fish, but that's by design.

At Fort Sill, there was Coleman, we used arm wrestle all over the barracks. Great guy, I'd love to talk to him. From Mankato, Minnesota if I recall correctly. laugh

I have been in contact with several former Army buddies via Facebook. I would not have been able to catch up with them without it.

My grandfather used to talk to his old Marine buddies all the time. Weird part was that they had been dead for 20 years. Kinda creepy, not gonna lie.

No, there isn't many night classes for soldiers in the field. Not when you are out in the field all night.

Hmmmmmm.
Was seated to teach upper baccalaureate course of studies at a local college by the tn board of regents after 2 LTC,s/ 05,s couldnt handle it .
Action was initiated by a 2 Star general in charge of 296 ROTC programs nation wide when things were going to schitt under them 2.
My little uneducated non spelling azz helped that college win a macarthur award in 2007- 2008 as one of the top 10 programs nation wide
From my uneducated non spelling azz passing on knowledge to my cadets success in their individual nation wide performance , scholastic performance, and tactical evaluations.

Not a day goes by that I dont think about some of the guys I knew in the USARMY , most of them were good guys, some of them werent good. I see some of them on facebook every now and then. Looking back I wasnt a perfect human being either and the man above was watching over me when I served.

It was a joke about your typos.

I didnt serve. I asked probably 20 recent veterans when I was a senior in high school and not one of them recommended joining. So I didnt.
