Who’s shooting this round? I just got a deal on a T3 stainless in 270 Win, and after debating screwing on a 6.5 Creedmoor barrel, thought I’d explore the 270 with this as a do it all rifle for eastern WA state. Thoughts? Hornady 270 Win 145 Precision Hunter Ammunition

Based on my experience with the 6.5CM 143 ELD X, I would certainly give it a try.

145 eld-x is all i use in my 270 Winchester. RL26, Winchester brass, forget which primer. My notes are in Alaska I’m still in Mississippi. Getting over 3000 f.p.s with that load combo. Only thing I killed with that bullet is a caribou.
Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.

I worked up 60.0gr of RL26 with the 145gr ELDX. Gives 3136fps out of my 22 inch M70FWT. Nosler brass, Rem primers. As always, approach with caution.
I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all. Jack O'Connor

Somewhere around 59-61 grs. of R26 and a magnum primer. If your gun likes this then you can stop right there. Other possibilities if R26 doesn't pan out are 7977, R23, VV165, VV560 and R22, 7828. If you do not shoot in hot weather then R26 will usually have the top velocity. I am using the 103 6mm and 6.5mm 143s but have not used them on game yet. They are a little Tweaky to fine tune but just follow Bergers VLD loading and seating instructions and you should get them to settle down. Not sure but I think both are jumped around 0.30" would have to check my notes. Seat them to max magazine or throat length and then back them down in fairly large increments then zero in on the optimal seating. R26 & the 270 Win. sort of took some of the shine off my 270 WSM.
I look forward to some field reports. The ELD-X have more jacket thickness then the SST but not as much as a Nosler BT. The interbond band is sort of a wink and a nod on the ones I have sectioned.

Sure thing,I use Hornady cases,Federal LR magnum primers,140 grain Berger VLD hunting bullets and 62.4 grains of Ramshot Magnum powder.Maxload right out of Ramshots reloading Manual. This is from a 22" Tikka barrel.I have it sighted 2 1/2" high at 100 yards and hold on center of body out to about 325 yards.Puts the smack down on Mule Deer.( NOT JB)

These look more like A-Maxs with a heavier jacket. I would like to see that also. Accuracy is necessary but so is bullet performance. .

I’ve a T3 and it shoots the 145s well. I only have h4831 on hand here so only driving them to 2875 or so. No issues on deer so far.
Yup.

I've tried that ammo at 100 yds and looked promising but at 300 yds it really opened up in my Bergara. I went back to my handloads with H4831SC with 140's.

I worked up some handloads, shoots quite well out of my 270's. I believe I went to 61 grains behind it without issues. With so many good bullets available these days have nor used them on Elk, but should be just fine. Yup, pushing 3100 fps from a 22" tube by my notes. I use Hornady brass and would be the only reason to by factory stuff- I find Hornady exaggerates a tad ...hence the 6.5 Creedmoor. Cheers

That is similar to the original 150 grain round nose loading that was intended to ruin less meat and act as a woods load. In the Rem. Corelokt version it worked really well for it's intended use. I wish I had a stash of the old bullets.

Given the outstanding choices we have today, it's quite difficult for me to not choose mono, partitioned, or bonded bullets vs. standard cup/core. You can pretty much match BC and/or penetration offered by C/C while almost totally eliminating the opportunity for Kersplosions that don't get to the vitals.

I correspond with a guy that lives in Alaska and does lots of hunting and knows other hunters that hunt a lot. They used a 6.5 Creed and the 143 grain ELD-X on a bunch of our Sitka deer, moose, one grizzly bear, black bears, caribou and etc. and have nothing but praise for the ELD-X as a good hunting bullet. It may be a cup and core bullet, but it is a very good cup and core bullet. So I can see no reason it would not be a good choice for the 270 Win. and if I lived state side and had a .270 I would try that bullet.
They are a bargain in my opinion and I bought two hundred of them for my 6.5 Creed for the grandkids to use.

I am willing to try them and put some never used 7977 to work.
Can anybody share their experience with this combination?
Looking at Hodgdon-IMR data with 140 and 150 gr bullets, I plan to work towards a 100 pct capacity or slightly compressed load, or 3,000fps, whatever come first.
I believe Mule Deer has worked with this powder in the .270 but anubody else's experience will be appreciated.
Gracias,

According to Mule Deer’s article in Reloader, working up to 60 grains of 7977 should get you near 3,000 FPS.
