I'll be danged. I haven't heard of the PH rating in forever. It had already been changed to a HM rating when I joined in 1970 (if I am thinking clearly and PH is Pharmacist Mate) (If I am not thinking clearly then please disregard this rambling from a delusional swabbie who drank way too much in his younger days).

Nope PH = Photographer's Mate. Still around. To answer your earlier question Ken. Senior Chiefs and Master Chiefs tend to go Chief Warrant Officer (CWO1-5) and be the technical experts and E-6 and Chiefs that get selected tend to go Limited Duty Officer and run the maintenance programs. Yes, Ensign LDO's get a pass on the "It's been my experience" line but only once or twice

Ensign sayings, "It's been my experience." Does that go for kings too? I read that King George VI was an Ensign at the Battle of Jutland.  Might, heck might apply more for politicians that go into the military. Of course you should also beware of the LCDR saying "I've been thinking" and the Aviator saying "Hey, watch this" For most of my adult life, one observation has been constant. Most Lt. Comanders and Majors seem to have been promoted several grades above their ability. However, those who are the exceptions are some of the finest officer material around (that last for Blaine)
