I watched that episode of Big Iron last week. Pretty good. Maybe I missed it but which bullet were you testing in the .480 and is it offered in a .44 version?
Thanks.
Those who are always shooting off at the mouth usually aren't shooting straight. What do you get when you cross a polar bear with a seal? A polar bear. Did you hear they arrested the devil? Yeah, they got him on possession. www.wvcdl.org

Thanks. Dave, we used Lehigh copper flat-nosed solids. They weigh 330 grains (the .475 version). Yes, they produce a 265 grain .44 bullet too. I used essentially pre-production Buffalo Bore DG ammo.

Liking the 330 gr Lehigh solid for .480Ruger `1150-1200fps out of the 6.5"SBH, yet to chrony them out of the 4.62".
Loading 380 and 410gr WFN and LFN GCs and just not sure which to carry for that unlikely big bear sidearm defense encounter.
Suggestions welcome.

Any of the ones you mentioned will work well. The Griz that came in on ne while working a moose kill was shot with an LBT LFN cast out of wheel weight and water quenched. Worked very well.
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

If I’m betting my life on a bullet, I would run the LeHighs. They have a big meplat and they’ll bust through bone and continue a straight path. You can run them faster than that and they’re not uncomfortable.

Thanks for the input, I've got some already loaded hotter that I'll chrony when I get back. After adopting your revolver hold techniques, I've adapted to recoil from the .480 without issue.
BTW, have you tried any of the 300gr Penetrators? Mike at Lehigh expresses confidence that they are the 330s equal.

I have and they are not the equal of the flat-nosed profiles from a standpoint of damage produced and depth of penetration. They're not bad bullets, they are just not equal in this type of an application.
