Hey Rooster,

Awesome job on the box blind buddy !!!

Deb & I just purchased a new home & 80 acres of land, that backs onto 460 acres of hard to access public land.

Settlement at the end of the month.

That's how we'll roll next season too !

I'll be hitting you up, expect some PM traffic next summer.

I had an appt. so I was able to get out of work early today. When I got home there was still a little over an hour of daylight left so I gather up some things to bring to the blind so I won't have to carry them out in the dark on Saturday morning. I had that nagging feeling that I shouldn't do it this close to season but hindsight and all...

I drove up, shut the truck off, got out and opened the back door to grab my stuff and I hear something behind me. I turn around and there is a big 10 point (definite shooter) large bodied, buck running across the pasture and into the corn about 40 yards away from me. He must have been bedded in some of the thicker stuff on the hillside not far from my blind.

Damn it! I hope I didn't blow him out of the country! I'm positive he didn't smell me when I got out of the truck and he didn't have his white flag up and wasn't running flat out so I think the noise of the truck that close and then shutting off had him thinking he better get out of his hidey hole. Schidt! I'm hoping he comes back around!

I can't find my Chicken Buck hat anywhere. frown

I don't remember if I had it up at the shack during ML or not.

If not, I think I know what happened to it. At the end of the regular gun season last year, I was packing up the blind and stuff in the dark and it was brutal cold and windy. I kinda recall putting it on over a thicker face mask to make the trek through the brush back to the truck. I bet it got snagged off my melon and then covered up in snow. DRATS!

No bucks been spotted, no deers been shotted. Some does and fawns observed by nearly all, good food and great company. Grandbabies were at deer camp, very good babies. Lots of fun.

No luck for our crew. We never saw a deer until we were driving out of the woods to go home today. Not much shooting. Didn't see any deer on trucks coming out of our area. Of course, lots of wolf sign. Shoot Shovel and Shut Up doesn't seem to be working real good in our area.

No deer shot and only one seen by five hunters at our camp about 40 miles SW of Chickenbuck. Many coyote and wolf tracks outnumber deer tracks by far! Very few shots heard in area and deer seem to be moving after dark with several deer sighted from vehicles on roads while going to and from camp. Almost got an eight pointer with my truck on drive home last night. Missed him by inches. Swamps were frozen and covered with 2-3 inches of snow but minimal deer tracks visible.
