I'm getting fairly good groups and a tad over 2900 fps using Nosler 140 Accubonds and H-4350 in my 22" Pac Nor barreled Ruger 77 MK/II.
In your opinion, is that decent, in the ball park velocity? Or should I play around with some other powders. Rhetorical question as I know I will try some other loads when I get the time.

You're in 7-08 range, mild load for the .280...

Unless you are shooting out a long ways and if it's accurate no need...
But if you want to maximize the case, you're missing close to150-200 yards on the back end of the bullets performance window in that cartridge....

Greg,
150-200 yards at the "back end"?
More like 50 yards. I suspect you're thinking of 150 fps.

More like 50 yards. I suspect you're thinking of 150 fps. Likely so.... I was texting and driving trying to recall ballistic tables... Depends on how low you want to take the impact though...grin...

H4831SC is my huckleberry in my Wby UL 280. It shoots under 1/4 moa with 140 AB’s @ 3000 fps. The gun is accurate with IMR 4350 too.
A 140 @ 2900 won’t bounce off a Whitetail. I understand wanting to squeeze a certain velocity from your loads. After taking a truck load of W.T.’s & Axis with 2800 fps averaged commercial loads I eventually had to admit that speedy loads didn’t kill them any better than not so speedy loads.

2900 with a 140 is plenty for anything you are going to hunt in Florida. If it shoots good, run with it.
If you feel the need to get more, you can probably squeeze another 150 fps from it, but your accuracy may go to pot.

Remember, The SAAMI specs for the 280 are on the low side, so you are closer to book max than you think. Of course, you have to ask yourself how much pressure you are comfortable with in your given rifle: Cartridge : .280 Rem.
Bullet : .284, 140, Nosler AccuBond 59992
Useable Case Capaci: 60.085 grain H2O = 3.901 cm³

Out of a 22" barrel your not gonna get much more. If its shooting good leave it alone If you want more 280AI.

It is good advice. I rolled a running pig at 400 yards with Remington (green/yellow box) 150 CoreLokt. Those loads averaged 2820fps. Killed lots of animals with that ammo.

My first .280 , a Ruger 77, 22" doted on IMR 4831 55gr and 139 Hornady. I never chronographed it, but it was most likely 2900 or so. I had a Mod 700 Mountain rifle ( 22") reamed out to the 280 AI ( early 90s) and with R22, I still only got 2950 with the 150NBT. I tried R26 in a 22" .280 a couple years ago, and the rifle didn't shoot it well, but speed was up there! I had a 22" .270 that loved the stuff...you pays your money and you takes your chances, ha. I did get 3000fps with R22 out of a 22 inch .270/140 for my SILs rifle. So, if you work up with R22 in hot weather, you will be OK. In that 280 AI I had, I worked up that 61gr load of R22/150 here in Utah around 40 deg. I went to Texas and shot a Corsican Ram and the bolt stuck, had to really hammer it hard with my hand. When an Ackley does that...wow! ha Good luck to you though.

I got to 2900 FPS and the 160 gr. Speer with IMR 7828SSC but accuracy wasn't all that great. I tried some long discontinued Winchester WMR that I have a fair supply of and got 2910 FPS with 3/4" groups using the Speer old two core Grand Slams. The load is intended for elk. Frankly, even the 7828 load would have sufficed for an elk hunt considering most of my shots were at 200 yards or less. I just like that WMR load better. Paul B.

Compare the velocity of your load at 50 yard intervals out to your maximum range to a new load at 150 fps more at the muzzle.
It’s not a game changer.

I'm getting just a touch over 3000 fps out of a 24-inch barrel, shooting a 150 Partition. Groups right at MOA sometimes a little under and sometimes a little over.
I suspect my rifle may benefit from a little bit of skim bedding work.

I’m getting 2900 with 154’s and H4831 out of my 22” Ruger Hawkeye. I get 3040 FPS with 139 and the same powder, FYI... My loads are a tad above published max loads but SAAMI has the .280 data a bit anemic. I’m not advising you need to or should but there is probably room to work up slowly and safely if you feel your gun is safe.
