Long shot, but my favorite cartridge in my favorite rifle. I know they’re rare. Had a super grade in my hands at a gun show about 6 or 7 years ago in San Antonio, but couldn’t afford it at the time. I did take a picture with it lol. Looking for an all original in any configuration preferably shooter grade.

Have you read Ken Water's article on 35 Rem in Pet Loads. He had a carbine M70 used for loads. How rare would that be?

Had my hands on it a couple years ago.
It’s original and mint. The last I spoke with him, he was
still standing firm on his price—-10K!
He doesn’t have to sell is why he still had it....

That carbine would be sweet, but I’m sure extremely rare. The bolt action loads for the 35 rem are impressive. I’ve gotten up to 2300 FPS with the 225 gr nosler accubonds in my Remington 760 with sub MOA accuracy. Brass doesn’t seem to mind.

That super grade M70 I saw was $5-6k I think. Might’ve been negotiable. It was an 80% gun and very huntable.

Thanks for the advice. I’ve been looking into some of the rare chamberings and I’ve seen some pretty obvious fakes especially 358 featherweights.

I just looked it up in Rule's book, 404 made in .35 Remington.

Jpw1488: I don't know if many of our fellow "Winchester Collector" Campfirers recognized your post ("So you’re telling me that there’s a chance..") as a hilariously ridiculous line from the Jim Carrey movie "Dumb And Dumber"!
I laughed when I read it thinking back on that great comedic movie.
Back to the subject at hand - I have only seen ONE pre-64 Winchester Model 70 in caliber 35 Remington during all my years (50+ now) chasing the Riflemans Rifle.

P.S.: Out of curiosity I went and looked up the movie "Dumb And Dumber" on wikipedia and was reminded that Jim Carey's character was named Lloyd Christmas and the movie cost $17,000,000.00 (seventeen million dollars!) to make and realized a PROFIT of $230,000,000.00 (two hundred and thirty million dollars!)!
A person could buy a LOT of pre-64 Winchester Model 70's for $230,000,000.00!

Haha! You could buy all of them! Fantastic movie, arguably best comedy ever. Hardly a day goes by without hearing someone quote it.

Hopefully the 35 rem I had in my hands a few years back won’t be the last.

Like mr. VarmingGuy, I have seen 1 pre-64 70 in .35 Remington, a SuperGrade at that. It was for sale, along with a .257 Roberts Supergrade, from a very, very advanced collector who had around 80 pre-64s at the time. I have no doubt it was 100@ original and legitimate and I would say about 96-97%. I considered it purely as an investment. However, after reading about all the hardest to find 70s being messed with, barrels changed, new barrels put on and counterfitted to look exactly like original, @ $10,000. asking price, I chickened out and bought the Roberts. As much as I like pre-64s and hunt with them exclusively, I would never consider buying one in what appeared to be an original .35 Rem. unless I had lots of money to lose. Just my 2 cents worth.

Even if you have one that is right how do you convince the next guy it's right?

The few M70's I own are nice but very ordinary. That way I can enjoy the guns without worrying about losing my ass.

Agree with that. That’s why I’d much prefer one in honest condition instead of pristine, better chance of being original if it’s a little dinged up.

I saw a standard sell for 7 or 8 grand, 2 years ago. was in 97% cond. Also one in same cond and price in 300 sav.
