Walking into someone's house without knocking shows a lack of respect for others, a lack of good judgement, lack of common sense, and a lack of proper upbringing.

I think it's simpler than bad manners. He texted your daughter, "out front", she texted back, "come on in". It's just what kids do. Talk to your daughter, remind her of the rules then let the kid have it.

GF in college. Knocked on door as taught. Her father did the shotgun thing as comedy...I think. I asked to see his o/u. Broke it open, inspected it and handed it back. I complimented its maintenance and age. Was an older piece. Got to be good friends. But I always knocked and made conversation.

When I was that age I was scared to death meeting parents. I shoulda had the sense to be scared 🤦🏼♂️ Hormones powerful stuff I know, I know just what you wanted to hear 🤷🏻♂️

At least he didn't sit at the curb and honk the horn Had that happen one time too, when my daughter was in high school...... notice I said 'one time'. Instead of her going out the door, I did. Told him he was welcome and expected to come to the door and if invited in, to come in. He said he didn't do it that way. My daughter didn't go out with him that time or any time.

If that young man tries to score, I'm gonna strike him out!
Rest easy. He'll do what you did.

I had the opportunity to employ a young man my daughter was dating once. They thought I was oblivious to their relationship so I let them think I didn't know. I rode that boy like a rented mule every chance it was offered on a job. My daughter brought it up after a few months and i told her I was just making sure he was a good enough employee. If he could put up with me he may make it with her.

Young man showed up here tonight, opened the door letting the dog and himself in. Strike one!
Introduced himself looking me in the eye, respectfully. Ball!
Introduced himself to Mama Bear, shook her hand. Ball!
I mentioned being home by 11, he said "probably earlier". Ball!
Mentioned he has little dogs, much smaller than Dillon (our boxer) Foul!
My first daughters first date. Not real darn happy right now.
If that young man tries to score, I'm gonna strike him out!
Seriously, I'm not happy that he didn't knock. He goes to a neighboring school, a long web friendship through common friends was all they knew each other.
Not fond of that.
But he walked right the fudge in my house! I knock on my long term friends doors. That's how the hell it's done.
He probably texted your daughter when he arrived, and she told him to come in. Most polite kids today don't wait to knock on the door, they let someone know before they reach it.

Used to like you Paul.
Well, she came home, and told her Mom the kid was super nervous. Younger daughter and dog had been out, and had talked to him at the car. Em then just walked in, leaving him out there. (Bad manners, we have talked) He then sort of followed from a distance.
He apologized to her in the car. It happened without him realizing what he did.
We will see. He did open doors, and paid for everything. More than many know today. But thats minimum.
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!

It helps to remember what a lout I was at that age. They are still kids, and a little education goes a long way. As long as they are willing (eager) to learn and get with the program, I'd not issue strikes very quickly.
