Looking for Blackhorn 209 Muzzleloader Powder 10 oz, I don't want to pay $50.00 from Cabela's or Bass Pro

I buy next year's Blackhorn this year. It always sells out early and all my buddies go into a panic, because they are out or low as the season approaches.

Just buy a 5lber. Some places got free or discounted hazmat if you spend enough. A 5lber is about $240

i'd switch my inline back over to #11 caps long before i'd pay $50 for a 10oz can. No reason for stores to up the price that much.

I gave my last jug to my son. Gonna use some 777 I bought for a sidelock. Performance is very similar and the crud ring's not an issue while hunting. In a pinch, BP only hits a trifle lower, and I ain't looking to shoot very far anyway.
What fresh Hell is this?

crud ring only seems to happen with 209 primers. I still use a ton of pyrodex in my sidelocks. I'll just go back to using it in my inline. Cant cough up that much $$ for a 10oz jug despite how much i love it.

Using Fed 215 primers also produced a severe crud ring with one shot in my Rem ultimate muzzleloader with 180 grains of Triple 7 (3 mag pellets) and the 250 accutip.
I am in the process of switching to BH 209. I just got the Arrowhead replacement breech plug and look forward to trying a powder that will allow multiple shots without cleaning. As little as I intend to shoot the higher cost of Blackhorn is worth it.

Damn, I was going to get around to trying BH209, never have yet, I found another three bottles of 777, I shoot 150grs of that loose under a 290gr Barnes in my inline, a hell of a combination to top, regardless of propellant.

If you have a Scheels close by, I saw they had it for $39

It's decent stuff, but very finicky. I had a bunch of misfires this weekend, and I clean meticulously between every round- bore, breech plug, flash hole and flash channel. Magnum primers, correct diameter breech plug. It just isn't as easy to ignite as 777. It doesn't leave the crud ring and cleans up nicely with any regular powder solvent, but I'm gonna shoot another pound of it before I trust it on a tag that takes me five years to draw...

What gun are you shooting? I’ve shot 6-8 jugs of BH209 and I’ve never had a misfire.

I use std Winchester shot gun primers and have never had misfire or no fire.It does have to be seated firmly. On the other hand both Pyrodex and 777degrades.Keep a jug of it from year to yer and it will give you erratic groups unless it is sealed very very well in storage.

I've been through maybe 3 cans of BH209 without a misfire. I use CCI-209 Magnum primers if that helps. I've read somewhere (my memory sucks or I'd tell you where) that BH209 needs to be packed down pretty good or it'll misfire. I lean on that ram rod heavy and make that powder good and tight.
On initial tests, I played around with the number of shots I could get before the flash hole crudded up too much to fire. I got 12 shots! I just clean it ever 3 shots and never have had problem.
All in all I've had great results with BH209. But it is crazy expensive.

My results mirror Gun Geezer's results. One thing to add is that accuracy falls off before misfires occur. Therefore I clean the breech plug with the drill bit after every five shots.

Ive shot several bottles of 209 out of Optima V2 LR using CCI 209m primers and have had no issues whatsoever. I also use the 209 breech plug..Outside of being crazy expensive 209 is awesome stuff..However, I watch the wally worlds in my area this time of year and buy when they clearance the stuff. Last year I bought 2 bottles at one wally world for 9 dollars per and 3 more at another for 13 dollars per!! Been looking this year so far and have nothing on clearance yet!!

The three bottles of 777 I found were still sealed and in a climate controlled room in a cabinet here in the house, shook the bottles a bit to loosen, it's absolutely fine, 150 grains of that stuff in a T/C 50 cal Omega inline under those 290 Barnes' is a hell of a load, it really has an attitude on whatever you decide to let try to catch one, by try, I mean I have never recovered a bullet, real bone and meat plows.
