I am scratching an itch and my brother wants to to build him a rifle. I have built the last three on Rebel actions. Looking to do something different this time. Will be a Proof barrel in either 308 or 6.5 PRC. Just looking to see what everyone is using and why.

Competition gun or hunting ?
There are a ton of good actions out there ...
PRS compeition wise most guys are moving somewhere between the 6 Dasher and the 6 Creed. Action wise Impact 77, Definance, Curtis Custom or Big Horn are the top dogs.
Hunting wise - Surgeon, Stiller, or Definance.

I have two Borden’s. Been thinking on a Defiance for my 22 Creedmoor build.
Why your departure from the Defiance?
By the way, in case you missed it, Jeremiah was a bullfrog.

I’ve got a Bighorn Origin and a Shilen DGR. I like both but prefer the Origin for it CRF and more horizontal ejection.

I have a couple Bighorn Origins and a TL3 and I really like them.
Really slick actions and I love how modular they are.
You can buy chambered barrels without sending the action to a smith, swap from a 7 Saum to a .223 within minutes and the firing pin is super easy to pull out for finding lands or bumping shoulders.
Pretty nice setup for a rifle loony.
Screw you! I'm voting for Trump again!

Last couple have been on Stiller Predators, mostly because I can get one today at Bugholes if I want one usually. When I get an idea I can’t stand waiting for parts if I can help it. They have all been ridiculously accurate so I haven’t been motivated to try another recently.

Defiance Deviant is my go to at this point. I've used trued 700s and there is nothing wrong with them, either. Every Defiance that I've used has produced a rifle capable of very, very good accuracy though so I'm unlikely to change at this point. I have some Mauser projects in the works as well but that is an entirely different animal. The Bighorn has lots of appeal if you burn through barrels quickly, i.e., PRS.

Why your departure from the Defiance? Lead time and tough time finding stocks for them I just received a Rebel that took a week from the day of order. I was quoted 5-6 weeks so I am not sure if it was a fluke or what. I couldnt find a LA Predator so decided to try a Defiance since I was going to have to wait anyway. It is a fine looking action now that I have it in hand.

Proof does shouldered prefits in both cartridges you’re looking at for several different actions. https://proofresearch.com/barrels/

Got another evo at the smiths!
Remington Winchester Ruger In the past probably won’t ever waste my time on a factory action with out Sentimental value again.
Trying to figure out if I want a bighorn tl-3 or a atlas tac for another light build. Had one evo already but titanium ain’t really a hot rods friend. Kinda leaning atlas as I have a manners that is a drop in and the bighorn I would like to go thick tang and have a manners cut just for it.
In short The custom makers offer a shït load of options. Bighorn Kelbly Defiance Mac bros Bat Borden Ect: All deserve a look when a guy wants to go to the next level of quality over factory actions.

A few years ago I sold everything off to switch to Bighorn TL3's exclusively. The modularity means any of them can be a 223, a Dasher, or a 6.5 PRC (the three calibers I shoot), or anything else that fits in a short action. Because they hold such tight tolerances, any of my barrels go on any of my actions. Additionally, you can order shouldered barrels from a number of shops without sending in an action. In fact, the entire time I've been using this system I've NEVER sent an action off to a smith for chambering. Beyond that, any of the inexpensive Savage prefit barrels work great as well. The latest is a Proof 6 Dasher in their new Competition contour, a 7 lb pig of a barrel that I'm pretty excited to get rolling as soon as things calm down. Proof TL3 Prefits Edit: looks like Hig was mentioning some of the above as I was typing!
