Remington 788 .243 win with a Leupold vari-x ii 3-9 when I was 10. Killed a lot of deer with it but moved to a Remington 700 7 mag at 13 and this began the rifle looniness.

Model 64 Winchester in 32 Special Deluxe. For my 16th birthday 1955
Stolen in Potsdam NY sometime around 1962.
Shot some nice Adirondack bucks with that rifle.
Sure do miss it.

Mossberg ATR 30-06. Tasco bubble pack 3x9. Whacked a pile of deer with it. Sold it after a few seasons and went stainless.

Marlin 336 CS in 30-30. Bought at a Western Auto for $210, brand new when I turned 18. I still have it and probably will never part with it.

Ahhh memories....

My first that was really my own was Christmas when I was 18. Dad bought all 3 of us boys rifles for Christmas when we were 18. Mine was a Ruger M77 MKII chambered in 260 rem, and had the stainless barrel. I shoot deer with it pretty much every year, and it flat out works. A few years ago I replaced the stock with a Boyd's laminate. Will never get rid of that gun. Saw a want to buy add for a Ruger M77 MKII in the classifieds, and the guy was wondering if there were any 260's out there. I just smiled. He won't be getting mine!

The first one I ever used was a Enfield .303 Brit.

The first one I ever bought was a Ruger MKII .30-06. About 1 hr after the last guest left my graduation/18th birthday party.

I don't have that rifle anymore.

Age 12 got my dad's Win 94 in 32spl for a couple of years mule deer and elk hunting. Moved from Oregon to Ohio and put it away. Moved back to Oregon late teens and worked in a department store. Employees got purchases at store cost plus 10%. Found a Rem 700 BDL in .308 that had been in stock for 11 years. Picked it up for $28 new (1972). Traded the 700 for a Ruger Blackhawk (Factory brass frame) in 44 mag. and sold the 32 Win SPL. Wish I had them both back.

One of my dad's buddies gave him an Interarms MK X in 30-06 long about 1970 or 72. Barrel is stamped PO Ackley and a town in Utah I think.
Scope was a 4 power Redfield.
Dad was left handed so he shot a 740 in 280, he gave the '06 to me.
Still have it. Have killed a pile of deer, turkeys and my only elk with it.

Taking it deer hunting this weekend.

Savage 99, EG , in 300 Savage. Actually my dad’s I guess

First one I bought was a mint Husqvarna in 25/06 that Wally Hall ( Hall’s Sporting Goods) was kind enough to sell to a 15 year old kid . I know (now) that he discounted the rifle by at least 25% to get the price down to the amount of $ I had. Used it with iron sights for over a year until I could scrape together enough to add a scope. That was 43 years ago

Still have both
