I ran the little short tube 1.75-6 for years on a 30-30, switched it over to a #1 45-70 and it broke on the first shot. My new VXR scopes (3) work great and ones on a 376 Steyr that runs 270 regularly.

Most of the hunters I have known for years (decades) in my hunting-grounds in eastern Washington are like me:
- Hunt Mule deer and whitetails
- Normally kill their deer between 50 and 250 yards. (Yep, even in Eastern Washington)
- Don’t twist dials, because they don’t have-to (see item above)
- Have been using set-and-forget Leupolds for decades with no major complaints and no major loss of zero

If I was to show them this thread, they would grin and not say a word.

The erectors on Leupys are definitely from another era and about half the scopes I've sent back for work end up getting an erector replaced which I didn't even know was bad!!! Ie I send a scope in for a new reticle and it comes back with a new reticle and, for free, a fresh erector. But as Old Crab said, if you're going to set it and forget it, they tend to work and work for a long time.

All the $1000-$2000 scopes definitely have way way better erectors but they also weight 2-3 times as much and also cost 2-5 times as much. For light rifles I still use Leupold, I just make sure to use them a bit before I plan to take them hunting. For scopes I dial a lot, no, don't use Leupold, but that also mostly applies to Swaro.
