BUT - thanks for the load on your MS bear thread!!!!!!!!! 49 grains of TAC under a 225 Woodleigh soft point using Federal Magnum primers is, on paper at least, the first ever load in that gun that will routinely shoot at or under an inch all day long. It will be out in the stand on 11/27, the first day here in PA. I'll post up an after action report if I get lucky.

I have found the Woodleighs to be very accurate bullets. They used to be a lot less expensive.

Good luck on your hunt!

I never loaded any of the 225 Woodleighs in my 358 but used them on feral hogs for several years pushed to 2300 fps out of my 35 Whelen. Perfect performance every time and on some big ones too, probably bigger than the average bear for sure. I hunted at night so I seldom shot farther than 150 yards. In my opinion there are very few bad 35 caliber bullets out there. My Whelen didn't like any of the 200 gr. RN's but that didn't mean they performed poorly.

Worked like a charm.

Very windy day, nothing much moving for the first 6 hours or so. And what was moving was skittish and passing through the woods very quickly. Wind started to abate around 2pm and two buck sauntered past about 45 yards away around 3pm. The first and bigger one passed by so quickly I did not get a chance, but the second - a nice 8pt, stopped to smell a tree limb. The shot entered his left rib cage, took the top of the heart off and broke the off shoulder on the way out. Not much of a "test", but this will be my standard load now in that rifle.

Wanted to post a picture, but this forums image size limitation is way behind the times.

Thanks again, and happy holidays.
