$1000: Average CFD ambulance ride, only applicable to 80% of victims, rest self-transport.

A figure is missing: the number of gunshot victims who pay for their own care or who have insurance.

They all have insurance - who pays for that insurance is theanswer you are looking for.

Also, $1000 for an ambulance ride seems awfully low, especially as an average. The government run ambulance service I often worked with charged that much for a basic "taxi ride" 25 years ago; add in any advanced life support and the cost quickly reached $2000+. The private ambulance companies were even more. Chicago must be dumping a lot of tax dollars into the EMS transport side of the Fire Dept as a subsidy as most decently run and managed EMS services can bring a profit to the table.

As for gangbangers, why transport? Dig a hole.

Slaves get what they need. Free men get what they want.

Rehabilitation is way overrated.

How much for alcohol poisoning? Or norcan? Or gangsta shoes, shirts, pants falling down?
I read somewhere you need to treat the cause instead of symptom.

YOU WILL go to school, say yes sir/ ma'am, be responsible for every child you sire, ...... on. Should have started 60 years ago. I know one man from the south side, said you do not have to join a gang, he didn't. Says a beautiful city is ruined, and you do need to know how to duck

No idea how it is nowadays but back years ago in Chicago the charges for ambulances services could be billed to the person who called it in if the sick/injured party or their family didn't pay.

Around here, there are "dead wagons," which are the trucks that pick up dead farm animals. Chicago needs a few of them.

......... We taxpayers pay their "insurance"....... Just like we will be paying the bill when we all get "free" universal health care.

Just spitballin' some numbers...

Say, 500 Chicago yutes are killed a year thus sparing the taxpayer the average cost of incarceration of $33K per year. Let's also figure each dead con wannabe would have served 10 years, and that the sentences are cumulative, meaning 10 years worth of cons are serving at any given year:

500 yutes x $33K x 10 years = $165,000,000 per year saved.

According to the link the annual cost of treating survivors is $103,353,200 per year.

I think the Chicago taxpayer is ahead.

Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense.

There's a 0% recidivism rate for gangbangers who assume room temperature, and there's no parole or early release from the graveyard. Hauling them to a hospital just increases the chances they might survive the incident and have to be hauled in again.

Poor town, all this and they have to pay the street sweepers OT to get all the empty brass off the sidewalks.

Unless victims just simply happen to be in the same general area as street thugs intended targets, assuming there is an intended target in the first place.
