The whole Bourne series... especially the first one... one of the three main characters in the book was not even in the movie....

The Scarlet Letter with Garly Oldman, Demi Moore and Robert Duvall. Worst movie adaptation of a book I have ever seen. A very hard feat to pull off with such a strong cast.
Always remember that you are unique, just like everyone else.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
One of the best science fiction stories ever written. The film is unwatchable.

I’m thinking some movies based on Stephen king books would belong on this list. Though some of these like Misery, Shawshank redemption and Stand by Me would be considered very good movies
I don’t like his out there supernatural stuff very much so I haven’t read many of those, or watched the movies. I’ve just always heard many of the movies and mini series missed the mark
Not a movie, but most recent example I can think of is the TV series based on King’s Mr Mercedes books. I liked the books a lot, couldn’t get into the show after the first few episodes. Maybe it got better, don’t know.
I haven’t watched the recent movie American Assassin to see if it’s a decent adaptation, but greatly enjoyed all of Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp series.
The book is nearly always better. Much more room to develop the storyline, convey a character’s thoughts and motivations, build suspense. Stephen King’s “It” and “The Stand” Two amazing books.
I retired from the Johns Manville asbestos pop tart factory in ‘59, and still never made the connection.—-Slumlord

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Sometimes a Great Notion. Both great books by Ken Kesey and sorry movies. GD

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Somehow a watermark of counterculture fiction was turned into a Johnny Depp wankfest.

It's bound to be a rich field of possibilities.
I'll start off with Starship Troopers. Not simply miscast, or poorly acted. Just way the fucgk off. Farcical. That was a great movie. Not enough boobies.....but a few boobies is better'n none.

Well, there's your problem right there!
Reading is a great way to ruin a good movie.
My dad's favorite book was The Immigrant.
They made it into a movie..........he still curses its name.

Okay.....just to prove that I can read........
All of the Tom Clancy movies were terrible compared to the books.
Some of the best ones were never adapted into movies. Thankfully.

Lord of the Rings says in the credits 'based on' books by Tolkien. By based on, they took some liberties that were pretty bad. They have to leave things out but they don't have to add crap and change important stuff. I wondered if that'd come up. I read the series at least twice as a kid. I thought the movies did them as much justice as they could. Perfect? hell no. But it's nigh on impossible to capture the richness of a book in a film. At least there weren't any alphabet people. There were some things they were able to bring to life with the cgi computer stuff that I thought was awesome.

I have read some books, I've seen some films. The all time worst would be the TV destruction of the Little House Book.

Seriously dude, check it out. I read Heinlein's other stuff, some of it's good, and some of it is AWFUL (Stranger in a Strange Land). But Starship Troopers is a fairly quick read, and easily relatable.

One outfitter I worked for had an ex-con on board for a few months. Boss called him Papillon, I had no point of reference till later. Still cracks me up.
