Hey all,
Just talked to a friend of mine in the industry. Apparently Colt is going to announce the return of the Python at the Shot Show next month. He has gone so far as to say that certain Colt distributors already have them in stock, but aren't allowed to show a photo or sell until the announcement.
Now this is a guy I have known in the industry for 20+ years, so I have no reason to not believe him. However, I have to say...If Colt actually has guns on distributor shelves...I'm seriously slipping in my old age.

It's all over the Colt Forum. Supposedly it'll be in stainless, with no MIM parts. Laminated stocks. Should be interesting. Release date is Jan 2nd, 2020. Bob

Bob Very interested in seeing the finished product. I never thought Colt had the stones to go there, but I'm delighted they did. Modern manufacturing should make this very doable! CNC and EDM can account for all the internals. Forge the barrel and frame, then CNC from there. But really no cheap way to make the barrel, so I'm interested in seeing how that comes out. But then again, they didn't exactly "go cheap" on the King Cobra's barrel, so we could be delighted. I don't expect it will be as accurate as the old school Pythons. First, the "market" just doesn't demand "full bullseye" accuracy from a revolver anymore since revolvers really don't see much time on a bullseye range anymore. And I'm cool with that, I don't "need" it to be a bullseye gun...but it would be nice. I think what they do "need" to , successful is...No cast parts (MIM or otherwise), a smooth action (too bad the market won't accept MIM), at least as accurate as a 686, and it needs to be aesthetically perfect (that's what most want out of the Python if we're being honest). In the past decade, I have been VERY impressed with Colt. Their 1911's are VERY nice these days, even finally got back to proper roll stamping; they look fantastic and work just as well. The King Cobra is very nice, but not a revolver I'm much interested in. The action is butter smooth, lockup is good, and the one I shot will hold its own with any current manufacture .357 out there. I think it's a very nice revolver...just not what I personally want. I'm one of the very few who isn't offended by MIM in the least bit, but the market just won't tolerate that on a Python. I always tend to take the wait and see (sometimes I wait a LONG time), but my bet is; Colt will pull this off. (for now, they'll screw EVERYTHING up later...they can't help it...it's the Colt curse).

Would go well with the full length fur coat, wide brimmed hat, sun glasses, and a '76 Caddie with gold trim.

Certainly looks like a Python Looks IDENTICAL to previous Pythons...So much so that I suspect that's just someone's Python. With the exception of the single pin front sight, I don't see anything that looks out of place.

I absolutely LOVE Brownell's RETRO rifle ad campaign. Black guys with huge afro's, white guys in bell bottoms and long hair, girls looking VERY 70's...such a cool ad campaign. Maybe Colt ought to do the same.

Hope they keep the 16/1 twist. Great hunting revolver with heavy slugs.
Gun Shows are almost as comical as boat ramps in the Spring.

I am sure the price will be crazy high. Like a Colt single action and probably made in Italy or turkey. But I welcome it anyway.

I'm sure it is going to be assembled in Colt's Custom Shop like they were in the early 2000's. One at a time on the benches of the masters. At least I hope so.
