I've been using 50 gr Zmax Hornadys for years, great accuracy in my .223 with Benchmark powder,

Those are discontinued, so,

About to develop a load for juniors new 22-250, I'll start with the on-hand 50 gr Zombie and Benchmark,

But will soon need to find a good all around, all purpose alternative bullet.

A fun gun basically, at the range, Coyotes possibly.....who knows....

Whatcha gonna buy?

Hornady 55 grain SP. Cheap effective and accurate in everything I’ve tried it in.

The Hornady 55 grain SP or the Sierra 65 grain GK.

Yes. Single bullet this is it.

I just box a bx. of 100 55gr. Horn. Flat Base with cannelure... I thought I had a stash of 500 of these somewhere.. Either I can't find them or shot them away.. Getting old is the pits...
Great bullet in the .22-250... I have shot thousands of them.. Gophers through deer they work well, but I still have a feeling I am stunt shooting when I shoot big game with those calibers...

same with the 40s and 55s.... got them at Cabelas for $40 a box, when they were closing them out
at the Cabelas up in Potlandia...

I used 40 gr Nosler BTs for years, but eventually started seeing more pigs than coyotes. I switched to the 65 gr Sierra GK and problem solved. Biggest pig so far was right at 200 pounds. I hear that the 55 gr version of that bullet also works great on coyotes and pigs, if a fellow wants more velocity.

No boat tail. I dunno what the cannelure is for, other than for factories that crimp their ammo.

The Nosler 40-grain BT. Shoots as flat/flatter and has the same/less wind drift as heavier 55-grain bullets to 500 yards, less recoil and awesome terminal effects. They are very accurate in my Ruger No. 1.

I really like the 40 grain Nosler BT's as all I do with a 22-250 is shoot coyotes. It's fast, flat shooting, and kills the snot of them. I also like a Speer 52 grain HP.

to me, for varmint duty , 40 grain Ballistic Tip with a charge of RL 7 ( 33.5 grains)

or either the Nosler or Hornady 53 grain Tipped bullets ( Varmaggedon or the V Max)

for everything including Deer....Hornady 60 grain SP ( 30 grains of H 322 or 32.5 grains of Benchmark)

Largest critters to be shot?

Why not just stick with the 50 grain V-Max?

Same bullets as the Z-Max with a different colored tip.

Midsouth Shooters Supply sells bulk packages of Hornady BTHP in 62 grain as a hunting bullet. I can attest that they work fine on hogs. There is also a 52 grain that looks the same and priced about the same. Item# 153-2249C250. The 62 grain shoots out of my rifles to the same POI as 62 Barnes and a whole lot cheaper and kills hogs just as well so far.

For coyotes and smaller, I’ve use 50 ballistic tips with great success, for many years.
