Hmm, Vudoo, Bighorn (Zermatt), and Bergara. All Rem 700 footprint rimfire bolt guns. Looks like the bolt-action rimfire market may be heating up.

Just to throw another monkey wrench into the works, Howa has also introduced a rimfire rifle, too. Dunno anything more than that, it's a near-full sized rifle with a rail on top, among other things. Not my style, but some will jump at it. No prices listed yet, either.

When will someone bring out stainless. And left hand? OR both at the same time?

After they've had a chance to thoroughly gauge the market based on sales of blue, RH versions. Not my words, but those of a rep at SHOT in 2019.

What's going to be interesting is how things play out as they pertain to magazines. Lots of discussion on other forums on the Vudoo vs Bergara magazine, and now RimX enters the equation. I'm not on FB, but did see a screen-shot of reply from Zermat on one of the forums stating that the Vudoo mags will work in the RimX. Now whether that means they will fit, or they will fit AND function is another thing. Watching this closely as one of the '700 footprint' rimfires is on my radar.

I need to check out the Bergara. This RimX seems too rich for my pocketbook. But I did spring for a Voodoo. I guess the popularity of those got other makers thinking they were missing out. Cool that there are so many rimfire options now when there were only a few 5 or so years ago.

For me, the mag compatability issue is moot. I don't expect my ruger mags to work in a CZ, and I won't lose any sleep if the others mentioned don't work in the RimX.....

Already have the scope, rings and trigger, just need to get a barrel, stock and RimX action now......

No, but it is nice... Is RimX's or Bergara's or for that matter the Vudoo rimfire rifle(s) going to be available in 10 plus years?

I usually tend to get carried away with the number of magazines I get to avoid any shortages down the road, But interchangeability is never a bad thing.

I am hoping one of these outfits comes out with a rifle set up for flush fitting magazines... as I have no need for the ten round magazines and flush fitting is easier to carry.

YMMV,

Jerry

The Vudoo mags are great but I can't wait to see the Zermatt mags and their adjustable ride height.

It's about time somebody started that trend.

From what I can tell, RimX w/one mag, and a pre-fit barrel is gonna put you about ~$100 short of a Vudoo barreled action w/1 mag. Both will still need a stock and trigger of your choice. The down-sides to the RimX are: 1) they won't be shipping for a couple of months and 2) who knows how long it will take to bet a Proof pre-fit (or any other flavor pre-fit). The Vudoo can be had now, new and used. Bergara's are currently in limited supply, but I suspect that will change shortly.

WiFowler: I have noticed that myself - I of course have an original (and exceptionally accurate!) Remington 40X Rimfire (based on the 700 action).
If these new improved Remington look alikes shoot as well as my Remington 40X Rimfire then these various copycat companies have done something worthwhile.
I paid just under $400.00 for my 40X Rimfire (used) many years ago.
Best of luck to all you rimfire accuracy enthusiasts if your trying one of these.

I checked out the Bergara, and that's probably what I'd do if adding to the 22 bolts. But I just need to shoot the Voodoo for now.

So RimX is going to be selling complete rifles/barreled actions?? Should be interesting.

Had a Rem 40X several years back. In a moment of weakness I let it go down the road. I kick myself everytime I think about it. Although, I always had it in the back of my mind that I wanted a repeater version. I have a Rem 37 and it shoots well, but no where near as well as the 40x. I 'blame' that on the trigger. Just cannot get the 37 trigger where I want it.

I'm watch the precision rimfire market and see how things progress. Vudoo is out there and established in the market. Same cannot be said for the Bergara and RimX. Too many questions and unknowns right now. If I were to bbuy one today (and money grew on trees!), hands down it would be a Vudoo.

As it pertains to your question, I would hazard a guess that we will not see complete rifles/barreled actions for the RimX - at least not from Zermatt (Bighorn). That hasn't been their focus to this point - actions alone have been.

I didn't think they were going to sell complete rifles, but wasn't sure. I think you'll be in for more $$'s than a Voodoo with a barrel and smith work, including threading and cerakoting.....but I could be wrong.

I wanted to build a custom 22 RF before the Voodoos came out. I had checked out Aalf's custom .22 built on a Stiller single shot receiver and thought that was about the only way to go that would satisfy me for a repeater as Stiller also made repeater versions. Glad I didn't bite. It was either that or a 40X or a NULA. I had purchased a NULA repeater receiver and decided to sell it and get my money back out of it. Luckily, the Voodoo's were born and saved me from going the custom route.

So you're talking a bbl'd action with a carbon fiber Proof for similar money.

Should be quite popular.

Action arrived last night to my FFL, I already had the stock so I put it all together. Unfortunately I have a medical procedure tomorrow and will be out of commission for at least a few days so a range visit will be delayed some. Final optic is a NF NX8 compact on order.

I've considered many Manner's stocks and Altus is bookmarked as a source. Unfortunately, every time I look to see if there is something I might 'need', they're out of stock, or the colors they do have available are less than desirable - in my mind anyway, and probably others since they're still available. Heaven forbid I order one from Manners and wait the same amount of time as a human female's gestation period, only to receive it and find something amiss..

I really wanted to slap it into a Manners EH4, but don't want to wait on the Manners timeframe, and the AG isn't that much too different.

Were I going AG,it'd be through MPA in their Altitude pattern, ala RHR. Mine should be here tomorrow,if the weather plays nice(ain't supposed to). Under 600 clams to the door and setting on the shelf, ready to roll.

Go Vudoo and the whole enchilada would be in your mitts,by end of the month. Jill sent me an Email today, that the 5rd billet mags will ship next week,so I ordered a brace. They have chamber specs down 100% and there's no way,I'd not do another S/S 2oz Shilen and say "fhuqk the safety". Bitches are amazingly TOUGH and reliable.

5,10 and 15rd Billets. Gonna call Jill tomorrow and plead my case for gettin' 'em in the raw. Fingers crossed.(grin)

The Vudoo Folks,are without peer.

'stick, if I was going Vudoo, I could run an hour and a half up to Mile High tomorrow morning and have one in my mitts immediately. But I'm going ZAI/Bighorn just because. Dare to be different kinda thing.

Wonder how long it will take before Stick comes to the conclusion that Zermatt is on the same plane as Vudoo?

GREAT folks at both places!

When I had Ray from Zermatt on the phone the other day,my first fhuqking question was whether the receiver was S/S or CM. Sadly...it's CM and that kicks it off the plane, less a 'chute,in objective Hard Use comparison. Hint.(grin)

Speaking of herds,I've a rather exceptional one of High Zoot Rimfires and Vudoo simply STEALS the fhuqking show. Hint.

I'll Zermatt solely by default, because they are the ONLY game in town to feed the Whizzum fire. Choices are easy, when there ain't none! I don't much fret getting my Franklin Kruncheticker Whizzum receiver "damp",nor the S/S 77/17 so chambered, but won't treat the Zermatt like a Vudoo, simply because it is not and can not. Hint.

Flipside bein',a Vudoo Hummer will get opportunities, that my Anschutz 54 1717D HB don't,due the beautiful traits of S/S. Hint.

There's no reason for you to be in sucha' hurry,to make bad decisions. Hint.

Laughing!....................

I've got an MPA Attitude L/A ("Ver 1" as I call it, sans the grip area and forend texturing) as well as an AG Composites Alpine Hunter, again LA. Got the MPA on a 'try it before you buy it" deal thru Dick @ RHR. I was impressed.) They are all comparable in many ways to a McM Game Hunter. My preference leans toward the McM, but in a pinch, the MPA would be my next choice. MPA seems a little thick in the wrist/grip, but I attribute that to my 'home grown texturing'. I suspect the current MPA Attitude is closer to the McM Game Hunter in the aforementioned areas. Forend on the AG Alpine Hunter is too 'square' for my liking.

If (when) I get a 700 footprint rimfire barrel action, be it it RimX or Vudoo, it'll go in a XLR Element - if only temporarily, because I have one laying around and it would allow me to start shooting immediately.

If it "helps",Vudoo's come in multiple colors including a matte black,so you could tell fellow City Slickers that it's "CM"...for Style Points!.(grin)

In a modest contour and placing an order,it'd be McMillan Classic in Sporter fill.

[Linked Image from imagizer.imageshack.com]

Upping the ante and looking for mass,it'd McMillan Annie Sillywet in HEAVY fill(16lbs of blood, guts and fury).

[Linked Image from imagizer.imageshack.com]

Though I lament the inability to score a McMillan T-hole Annie Sillywet, for a few more builds.

[Linked Image from imagizer.imageshack.com]

Along with their Traditionaler and yet discontinued Sillywet.

[Linked Image from imagizer.imageshack.com]

I prefer the Rem Hunter,to either the Game Hunter or A3 Sporter.

[Linked Image from imagizer.imageshack.com]

Herds are handy.

Only have 2. Was waiting on stocks,so they both have been in more than one handle.

Keep thinking about trying an Anschutz, because they are CM and it doesn't rain here either.

If a guy shoots even a SMIDGE,he's gunning Nitrided something or others...whether he knows it or not. Hint.

Pass the S/S and the spray paint. The only shake & bake coating I'd take seriously,is Robbie's NP3...but he pulled the pin. Electro chemical coatings are real.

Whattaya' trying/hoping to do?....................

I was more curious as to any problems you've had with nitride.

I'm 100% with you on a Stainless bbl, but missing the concern on the nitrided action.

You seen the Trijicon wind reading binos?

Range to 5,000 and wind to 500.

Only $8,000

Would be a fun tool to have with a skookum rimfire in hand.

'bean,

In fairness and to be concise, they(Trijicon Ventus) are NOT a Binocular...rather a Monocular. Hint. Congratulations?!?

It's elder Technology(Lidar ain't "new"),applied closer to Joe Average and it's of course welcomed. Who the fhuqk WOULDN'T welcome a Wind Reader,if only as a tool to quantify readins from the hip? Personally,I've less than zero interest,in a cumbersome/heavy Monocular. Nice thing is,others will follow suit and it'll eventually be incorporated in a Bino, with abilities much exceeding the current 500yd threshold and simply become mainstream. When that becomes reality,I'll be there. Hint.(grin)

I'll keep shooting my Base 10 Mantra, until that time.

I'm soooooooo not a fhuqking Coatings Guy. I'll NEVER understand a CM Custom Action, nor a CM spout in this day & age. Metallurgy is metallurgy,to the chagrin of Excuse makers everywhere!

Hint...................(grin)

'22,

You are in a better LR realm than I,due simply to Atmospherics. I can reach the 700yd line and small change all in,with more than a few 22LR platforms...but 52 Mils will only take a guy so far, mechanically. That's as per current typical configurations and 10x MQ's bottomed THE fhuqk out in erector travel/50yd zero. I'm not into adding more inclination,to hand crosshair intersection away and paste a 50yd zero 5 Mil's above same. Hint. Congratulations?!?

There is NO fun, like Long Range Rimfire FUN.

Hint.....................

Well, yeah, I suppose monocular vs. binocular could be argued same as chicken vs. egg.

Been hearing Nick Vitalbo talk about the Lidar stuff for a while and very happy to see this tech available even if in a cumbersome $8,000 package, and as we all know, the prices will drop and in 10 years (maybe less) every guy on Snipers Hide will have them mounted to their tripod.

On a serious note, what issues have you had with nitrided receivers?

Nothing else in the AG lineup,is even close and this is an exceptionally well thunked out pattern. MPA done did a great job of sculpting.

I did get to shoot one 50yd group after zero before the eye went blurry.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

FYI...Got the Vudoo .22 briefly to the range during the week....short visit, too soon after eye surgery...I found out the Manners mini chassis mag catch allows to much up and down movement of the mag and does not feed the Eley black (with that blunt nose) without issues. I was on the phone with Paul from Vudoo (very helpful) and there are several options.....one is to order an extended mag release from Manners and custom fit it so it holds the mag in proper position...2nd is to wait for Vudoo new design mag that should correct the problem according to Paul. By the way, he did offer right up front to fix the catch if I would send him the rifle. A gentleman !

Damn, I have to stop reading these threads. Just finished building a 40X repeater custom for myself and haven't even had a chance to wring it out properly yet and I come upon this thread and I'm choking.... you guys are going to cost me some money, I can tell.... smile

I'm more concerned that now that there are so many choices in the high end rimfire market that it will reach the saturation point and some of the contenders will drop out.. smart move on the RimX folks to include options for different rounds by simply replacing the bolt nose and mag... should keep them in the running for a while and make the other competitors up their game a bit....
