If you machine the slide for new sights it would hurt the value.
If you just change the sights and keep the originals, you will be good on value.

Had this one done awhile back (Novak sights, trigger work, repark the slide). It's a forged frame MK III that is a superb shooter. I have an unaltered '67 T series in the safe. They go well together. You can never have too many Hi Powers. Bob That is sweet It is . A BHP is one of my favorite guns.

There is one other matter that hasn’t been discussed. I have owned their pistol for years, pre-magazine ban in CA. I am not able to buy a new HP and feed it a 13 round Mag I would be buying myself a 10 round pistol, the idea of sticking it to CA with 14 round pistol appeals to me. ...well that sucks... If this isn't going to be a carry pistol and just a shooter/target/plinker I would still sell it and instead buy a SIG P210. Reality is that a HP will never have the shootability of a 210 especially the trigger pull...unless you are willing to pay BIG bucks. A great 1911 trigger pull can be had for in the $150 area...last time I looked helping a friend with his HP its started at $350... You will probably get a LOT more for it selling it locally in-state rather than selling it on GunBroker plus saving the 6% Seller's fee.... But if you just love the HP line then be prepared to pay for it.... Bob https://cylinder-slide.com/Category/BHP9 A CCW carry.

There’s no way to change the front sight without permanent modification. I don't know about that - I'm pretty good with a soldering gun. The front sight post is peened and soldered into place. And the solder that holds the front sight, is the same solder that holds the barrel bushing. Maybe you're just really good. But I've been working on Hi Powers for over 30 years, and I would pass on that job.

To clarify, in CA you can’t use your 13 round mags in anything other than your currently owned HP? You can’t buy a new HP and use your old mags? If so, I’d modify the HP you have and shoot it.

What a beautiful pistol. My best friend had one about 45 years ago. I would carefully consider the advice you have received.
I like to do my hunting BEFORE I pull the trigger! There is only one kind of dead, but there are many different kinds of wounded.

It's sometimes referred to as 'intentional absurdity'.
I'm not really good at it - and when someone takes me seriously . . . I'm humbled.

I've seen several custom Hi-Power's from reputable pistolsmiths coming up for sale.....1911 Addicts. If you buy one that's already done, it'll save you money. And you can sell your T-Series to pay for it.
I bought a Novak's customized Hi-Power that way. And it's an older model with the solid rib on top of the slide. Lots less than having it done myself.

I have T series BHP and had Kevin Gibson install tritium sights on mine and had a Cylinder and Slide safety installed. I am happy I did. My feeling is that guns are meant to be used.

If it were mine, I'd keep it as is, for what it is, and use the money it'd cost to do meaningful upgrades (probably a lot more than you'd think at current prices) to buy something a bit more useable for someone with your level of "decay". I just bought a CZ 75 Omega Convertible (all steel, DA/SA, decocker or safety for cocked and locked carry, 16+) for about $550. Great gun, as good as, IMO, if definitely not as nice as your HP. There are lots of others out there for a bit less or a bit more that will let you blast away to your heart's content without fretting over what you've done to your treasure piece, which clearly is somewhat of a concern to you.
Since it's your gun, do what makes you happiest; just think about it before you act.
What fresh Hell is this?

So best I can tell I have a T model Hi-power in the gun safe, and it is damn fine shape. The more I handle it, the more I like the feel of it, it points really nice for me, and feels solid in the hand. Been considering some new sights for it, my 60 year old vision is starting to fade. Researching around, I' finding that the T model and the C model are the most desirable..for shooters or collectors. Would it be a sin to alter this pistol, sights, maybe an ambi-safety, or would it still hold its value with modifications? Thank you. Leave It The Fugk Alone
