https://www.ktva.com/story/41549566/man-survives-20-days-after-cabin-burns-down-near-skwentna

Man's cabin burns down and he's stuck for nearly three weeks with not much of a shelter.

Would love to hear more about this story. Not how I'd want to spend three weeks.

Not a great time of year for that. Been cold enough in the house.

Story said he ate canned pineapple even though he is allergic to it. Why does a person living alone in a remote place keep food on hand he is allergic to? Time for a few high paid TV interviews and maybe a movie? Either way I am glad he is ok.

Some observations:
No secondary shelter available. Common practice in below zero weather

No secondary food cache. Again, common practice when you burn wood.

I saw the stove pipe in the ariel footage. It was choked with creosote. His own negligence. Molten hot cresote coals will land right on your structure when it catches and flows up the pipe. Gotta burn out the pipe once a week. Or.....sweep it.

No kindling prepared for stoking coals back to fire.

No fire extinguisher. Common sense

No familiarity with the land, was essentially trapped

Demoralized by a challenging experience and ultimately went back to mommy and daddy.

Typical Alaskans, grit their teeth and REBUILD. Other Alaskans join in, inspired to help those who help themselves.

Ultimately, I suspect the kid was unprepared. I'm relieved he made it.

Lucky he wasn't in the interior. He wouldn't have made it a single night in the 40-50 below. Skwentna is a much warmer climate.
