I fu king hurt.
It took 2 days until I could move without crazy pain. I.e. getting up to piss

Got my current lemon size waistline hernia about 6 weeks after my kidney surgery. Opened up right over my staple line. ick!!

Not sure if it was from humping around a backpack leaf blower for a couple hours or if it was because of me hurryin up trying to finish taking a shît when I heard squidbillies coming on in the back bedroom.

I weren’t supposed to be lifting nothing for six weeks, maybe they were off by a couple weeks

I had two repaired at the same time. One inguinal, one umbilical. I was about 40 at the time.

- I was off work for 2 months.
- 1 month
- 2 months. I was a commercial meat cutter, so had extra time off given the lifting I did at the time.
- I had the "chicken wired sewn on the inside of the muscle wall" procedure.

No issues ever again but I did be quire careful to allow it to heal properly.

2 inguinals and one umbilical _ NOT at the same time.

3 weeks for the groin, one week for the belly button. I was young and strong back then,

My son had the laparoscopic, 2 weeks off.

Take it EASY for the first few days.

I did not take the opioids, I took Naproxen.

I had two done last year in Sept. inguinal and up near diaphragm. I can tell you waiting is not a good thing. A strangulated hernia is an emergency situation and can definitely lead to death if not on the ball. Sepsis sets in very rapidly! I had mine done in a non emergency situation, I’d recommend the same for you. They definitely won’t fix themselves. I’d also recommend doing research, ask the Dr what his success rate is, better yet make sure you go to a very creditable hospital where you can receive good care. I was in the hospital overnight, but mostly it was to monitor the blood thinners I’m on for a heart valve.

All the best to you sir. Get it done quickly.

Had first inguinal hernia repaired with the older approach, an incision. Took a week off from work. First few days learned what movements caused pain. Like another poster said getting out of bed took a special approach and reaching for something up on a shelf! Took a month to begin to feel right.

A few years later had the other inguinal hernia and a umbilical hernia surgery done at same time, laparoscopic method. Felt great the next day. Could raise knee up without any pain. Went back to work right away. Was quail hunting the following week. The incisions made for this method, two in each side of abdomen and one in the umbilical area were sore requiring suspenders as a belt was a bit uncomfortable. There will be dimples that remain in two sides of the abdomen which are still there 35 yrs later.

If you have a choice go with the laparoscopic method.

Had a couple days to get off narcotics before going to a light duty job. (Basically getting in and out of a towmotor was the hard part.) Six weeks is right, unless a small one or laparoscopy operation. Here's what I want to emphasize. Do NOT let anything poke the incision while you heal. My then two-year-old was bouncing on the bed and landed on mine. Jokes, sneezes and such aren't even close to what I felt.

All these years later and -- no big deal. Get it over, sir.

This is pretty much my story, minus the two year old. ACUTE pain day of and week after. Still in moderate to severe pain three weeks in. Then it started getting better very quickly. I took three weeks off work and glad I did...

How do you know if you even have a small hernia anyway?
What am I supposed to be "feeling" to figure it out as I get older?

I had a bulge at my right nut.

Went to my doc and said my twin is coming out or i have a hernia.

He went on a probing expedition and he agreed.

Did not hurt before he did the probe but was smarting after.

I can push it back in if it gets to hurting and if i sneeze i hold it some.

Told my wife after the visit that old line was i happy to see her or is that a hernia in my pocket.

Kind of like a child's squeeze toy.

But when it acts up i have to lay down to get it back in.
