I've let my buddy talk me into an antelope hunt this fall. Don't really have a correct rifle for such things so it seems like a fine reason to get a new to me one.

I think I've narrowed it down to .257 Weatherby, 25-06 or 240 Weatherby. If anyone has any suggestions in the low recoil, blistering high speed, small projectile category, I would appreciate suggestions. I am not considering Savage rifles even though I know they shoot great.

I have access to reloading gear and friends that will help if I need it but I'm not interested in any wildcat calibers that I can't get factory ammo for.

I have been trying to buy a Howa 1500 for three days but the dealer keeps dragging his feet about taking my money so... Anyone have a budget rifle or rifle/scope combo?

My definition of budget would be 500+/- total package. Willing to spend a little more if something really catches my eye. Obviously looking for used but not shot out yet.

It is a fine antelope round. Just a little slower than what I'm looking for.

It's just a tad on the sedate side with velocity of 2960 with 100 grain projectile. 25-06 with 100 grainers is running 3350+/- and .257 wby is running 3400+.

Most here run 80- 95 gr bullets over 3K.

500-700 fps slower than I'm looking for. The high bc and high sd bullets are really nice.

I've killed 30+ antelope with my .243 shooting 95 grain Fusion ammo. I've also killed them with a 25-06 and my 7MM-08, but when it times to get serious I grab the .243.
