First is a Remington 700 classic 221 fireball. Next is a weatherby mkv ultralight in 7mm rem mag, it is a older version with stainless barrel with black flutes. Both rifles are in very good condition. What would be a good price for these? The 221 I could get for 700 and the 7mm is marked 749 but could probably get a better price. Thanks for your thoughts.

If I'm correct, those Weatherby ultralites normally go in the ballpark of $1k or more. There was one in a 257 wby listed here in the last couple weeks that was over $1k

No idea on the Wthby. If you're wanting a fireball, that would probably be a decent deal. The Fireball classic was made in 2002. If in good shape, I'd go for it. But I'd offer less first.

That’s a good price on that one. Don’t know on the Weatherby though. Never owned one.

Price wise, the older Weatherby ultra lights in common calibers run about $900 to $1000, the Weatherby calibers are usually a $100 or so more.

I had the same rifle, it was sub-MOA cold bore, MOA with a couple of rapid shots, and opened more with the third. If you let it completely cool between rounds, it was a great shooter.

I think I sold mine for about the same price.

I don’t need either one but I reload and am always trying different rifles. I checked gunbroker but didn’t see many rifles in 221 fireball. Thanks for the input so far.

I sold the weatherby for 1050 shipped, like new condition, but it was a 257 weatherby, and that round seems to bring 150 more than non weatherby cartridges. I still think I woulda snatched that 7mm up if it were me.

Not a bad price on the classic 221. Might wanna make sure it ejects empties. I’ve had 2 700s in 221. The LS and the LVSF. Both shot well, but the empty cases always flipped over backwards in the port instead of up and out the side. Maybe it’s not a big deal to you, but I used mine as a calling rifle and it was a pain. I think most 700s in 221 and 17fb have this problem. Loaded rounds eject fine however. Guess it has something to do with the OAL....idk. Something to think about and try out.

I like the Remington 700 Classic in general, but don't see the point of saddling myself with a 221 Fireball rifle.
I'd probably just put that money towards a CZ527 in 222 Rem... or 22 Hornet if I wanted something slightly more economical to load. Or maybe a .204 for the hot new thing.

I've always been intrigued by Mark V actions, and years ago I saw a Mark V Ultralight at a gun show for $400, with about 18 or 19 cartridges. A steal of a deal, but it was in a BIG Weatherby chambering like 30-378 or something that I wanted no part of shooting. And the action was too long for rechambering into a more user friendly cartridge. Probably, maybe, could've parted it out and made a dollar. But I figure I would've just took it to the range and shot it once and then stuck it in the back of the safe or closet or up in the attic, so I left it.
A 7RM might be a little nicer in a superlight rifle, but probably still a bit much for my liking. Aren't those sub-6 pounds?

Lots to like about a .221fb.
3200fps with 15g of powder and a 40g bullet. A hornets not gonna do that, And that’s a lotta shooting out of a pound of powder. Excellent brass life with quality brass available too.

Well I left both of those alone and bought a ruger m77 tang safety 220 swift. It has a Burris 4-12 with AO for 575.00. I have a colt light rifle in 7 mag and it shoots lights out so didn’t need another. The ruger shoots factory Remington 50gr psp ammo very well. I had something very strange happen yesterday though. Fired one of those Remington rounds and the bolt was hard to lift and the primer was gone, primer pocket enlarged so obvious over pressure. Anyone had a issue like that with factory ammo?

I think you did well. More and more I favor rifles scaled to cartridge size, except for obvious classic exceptions like .22 Hornet M70s. The Fireball belongs in something smaller IMO.

The Weatherby seems like a deal, but you're covered there. Only one of those I've seen was long ago before Montanas and such, and it was very nice, even though at the time Weatherby stocks looked kinda wild to me. I've mellowed some on that.
