I will need to buy a new tractor in the next few years. I have a 50-60 year old small John Deere. I want to get something that is 4 wheel drive, can pull a batwing...so that's at least 70 HP. Would like a loader to clear the driveway in snow, etc.

I don't need a lot of bells and whistles but would probably like a cab. And will probably get something closer to 100 hp.

I'm not a farmer and don't know much about tractors. From looking around on youtbe the Case IH seem pretty nice.

It's more the model than the make and it's even more about the year. If you're buying new, you're getting the absolute worst as far as complication, but it is NEW. Case and NH are owned by the same outfit and are very alike, as in Chevy-GMC. In any given model or year the Deere MIGHT be as good or better but will almost always be higher. There is a reason CNH is the top seller globally. Green paint is evidently much more expensive. To me, these are the only three competitors and the Case vs. NH is pretty much which color you like best...other than the dealers. A good dealer is worth a lot, especially on a new machine. Anymore, you may be in an area that has only one dealer, so it may be best to just go with that rather than drive a hundred miles for a $10 part...if there are any $10 parts anymore.

Kubota also has their following. I'm not hot on them though.

Deere is not the same outfit they were 40 years ago, but I'd still go green if I needed an ag tractor.

If you want ultra-dependable and you have no need/desire to pay more for a machine because of its name or color...……………...KUBOTA.

We run 4 of them on the Christmas tree farm from 18 to 70 HP. They just go to work EVERY DAY...…………...for a good bit less cash than others.

In that size range (70-100 hp), Deere and Kubota actually make their own tractors.

What you’ll find with lots of other brands in that size range, is that they are simply slapping their name on some Korean-made tractor, etc.

There are exceptions, but if you want something that you can easily get parts for, and get good resale on, those are the two to start with.

Go with the best dealer in your area. Ask around.

I like Green, but it’s the dealer that makes or breaks the deal, IMO.

JD

They are all good until they break, which they all eventually will

JD you can always get parts for (usually overnight if your dealer doesn't have them in stock) even if they are 50 years old.

If you farm, you know nothing breaks until you need it.

I wondered today, while looking at my old one parked next to the shop, leaking some of course, why I ever bought the dang thing in the first place.

Overall, would be cheaper and easier to hire out any of that type of work I need done around here.

I would look at a 10 year old, 1000 hr JD, NH, Case, kubota etc...If you are partial to the JD look at the E series.

Mahindra tractors seem to be worth researching also.

I guess Mahindra has terrible support from the factory.

I have a friend who runs a big ranch. They keep pretty modern tractors around.

The new machines are not reliable.

yammer builds most of Deere's small tractors engines. in their smaller tractors, tannies come from India.

Pretty solid tractor after I got them to fix a front hub issue.
