I recently found my buddy a TC PA hunter 50 cal and his flint is starting to chip. I’ve never replaced mine that came from TC. Anyone know if you can still get their flints or another good option?

I generally buy all my flints from Track of the Wolf. They advertise sawn flints if that’s what you are looking for. I generally shoot the english hand knapped flints. Good luck.

If not there try the Log Cabin Shop in Lodi Ohio. They been in business for a long time and are good folks to deal with. Google will get you contact info.

Those sawed "flints" that T/C sells are still available. Some of our local Pa gunshops still have them on the shelf.
I get mine,(black english flints) from Track of the Wolf, and a phone call will have them telling you the correct one for the rifle. Never had a problem with them.

Black English or blond french flints are much better than the TC synthetic rocks.

Still have some, both sawn and some "shipwreck" English, IIRC. Never know when you're gonna need an excuse for a new gun.

Terry,

Those French chalcedony flints sure seem to work good in my Fusil de chasse! 😁

Traded ol’ Bob Winters outta several dozen almost 20 years ago!

Dixie Gun Works in Union City Tennessee is what TOTW wants to be when it grows up. Turner Kirkland was dealing in flintlocks in the 1950's, and I believe the third generation of his family is running the business now. Better prices than TOTW, and better merchandise.

I used to run into Mr. Kirkland at the Texas Gun Collectors Show back in the day.

OMG! Bob Winters, the flint knapper? Would you believe I taught Hunter Education with Bob Winters, Bob Patterson, and a half dozen other reenactors nearly 40 years ago? Last I heard he moved to Virginia, but we lost track. Small world!
