You like them? Boomers figure if you did it would only be if Mom brought them down to the basement for you, already buttered with syrup on them. Maybe even cut up into bite sized pieces too. Boomer morning here. Made some sourdough volkkornbröt last night. Had some leftover starter so I made up some pancake batter for this morning's use. Whole wheat, some oats, rye flour, buckwheat flour, and best of all some wheat berries from a farm over the hill and some buckwheat groats. After letting it work overnight I added a bit of regular flour, some salt and oil, and got ready to rock and roll: Had my plate ready, neighbor rancher is a potter too, glaze is local rhyolite he ground up, cottonwood leaf from his yard. He's a boomer, lotta work doing all that on top of ranching (not something a millenial can relate to) : Dang things were tasty, all slathered in butter and organic maple surple from the Costco: Had extras to freeze for the toaster later in life: Dang bit of work for a really tasty loaf of bread and some hotcakes.........................but that's what we boomers do for enjoyment even.............work. Millenials be like "That's crazy dude, they make hot pockets and Eggos you know".......................Mom will even toast 'em for you if you yell upstairs to her. Geno

Huh, I thought buckwheat would be better than regular flour. Like brown vs white rice.

Huh, I thought buckwheat would be better than regular flour. Like brown vs white rice. I love the taste, just have to use a little to get the flavor. Bread is really dense if you just use it and no regular or bread flour. Same with griddle cakes. Love the groats too, got them from the Ukranian market. Geno

Made some sourdough volkkornbröt last night.
Geno Still waiting for you to post the recipe. OK, but realize I just use it as a guideline. This version doesn't include sourdough starter, which in the form I use is about 50/50 flour and water. So I add a cup of starter and subtract a half cup flour and a half cup water from the recipe. I like buckwheat so I use a 12/ cup instead of a 1/4 cup of buckwheat flour and then cut back on the regular flour. No wheat germ so I used oat bran. I worked for over 10 years in the commercial (Wonder Bread) baking industry so I know what a good dough is supposed to look and taste like. I do a lot of adapting. The loaf I made last night didn't get any yeast added to the dough either as my sourdough had been working good, was fresh and pretty "hot". The rise turned out just about perfect. But, I'm just a boomer, what do I know From the Bread Machine Magic book by Linda Rehberg and Lois Conway, p 56 in my version: Loads and Loads of volkkornbröt recipes online too. I've been tempted to try some, but this one turns out damn tasty so why bother? Best of luck. Geno PS, didn't know until previewing this post that I had a cut on my finger. Boomers are like that. Little boo boos don't even get noticed

Only thing missing is Syrup from Danny L.!!! Does he still do that? I got on his list a bit too late one year. I'd just as soon buy from a real person as from Costco. Geno

I'm a fiend. Ate 14 one morning when I was a teenager on a 60 mile backpack trip through the Sierras. Until a few years back I was good for 6-8 plus the eggs and bacon. Now I try to hold myself back. I love pancakes...............and pulling some folks' chains! Geno

OK, but realize I just use it as a guideline. That's how I use recipes. I usually end up tweaking them to suit my taste. I have some sourdough starter in the fridge, er uh, Kelvinator, fridgadator or whatever you campfire misfits call it. Loads and Loads of volkkornbröt recipes online too. I've been tempted to try some, but this one turns out damn tasty so why bother?
Best of luck.
Geno I know there are loads of recipes online but since you were raving about this one, figured it had to be a good starting point. Thanks for posting it.
