I’m going to try loading up some different bullets and loads with some different powders to see what my Win70 Classic 06 prefers ... what’s everyone using that works good for them when chasing deer? Share your recipes please.

45grs h4895 and hornady 165 interlock - not real fast but accurate


59-60grs h4831 and a280 Nosler ballistic tip - 60grs get 2737fps from my Ruger with good accuracy.


54.5grs h4895 and 130 Barnes ttsx. Fast and accurate.

130 TTSX. You won't be chasing them far.

My dad calls them the 5 second bullet. That's as long as a deer has stayed on it's feet after meeting one. And that is after MANY

I’m going to load 150 NPT’s with RL-19, Nosler ‘s accy load. Partitions are always a good deal.

Just for WT’s I’ve used the 130 Hornady SP at over 3K+ fps. Thru and thru with lots of chest damage and DRT. Good blood flow both wounds.

For WT’s you don’t really need heavy bullets. 125 and 130’s at fast speed do the job.

165 grain Sierra GameKing or 150 Sierra ProHunter, with H4350.

In my 30-06 I load 168 Barnes bullets with 57gr. Of H4350. It shoots sub moa in my rifle, my sons 30-06 and my previous 2 30-06. It seems like a great combo for 30-06 in general.

Have a M70 30-06 stocked in a McMillan. Loaded up 180 AB's over near Nosler book max for Re-17. Accurate and muleys don't like it.

Back years ago, it was 57.0 grains of imr4350 under a 180gr roundnose.
Now I am shooting 52.0 grains imr4064 under a 150gr tsx, and 50.0 grains of imr4064 under a 165gr solid base.
Super accurate in my rifle.

My best 06 loads came with I4350.. I used either 165 Sierra HPBT or 150 gr. Horn. SPBT... I loaded my last batch of 150s in 1982.. Tried a couple of them this fall, still accurate and killed a nice whitetail with my grandfathers .30-06!!!! Deer are not armor plated.. Cup and core works fine...

So far my 30-06’s have all liked a 150 gr Sierra prohunter or ballistic tip over noslers starting load of imr4831. Not fast, but no more is needed at 200 yards or less.

A 150 Partition with 59 grains of IMR 4350 at 3000 fps. It hammers deer and pigs. Ballistic tips and Accubonds would be great too.

I always shot the IMR 4350 and the 165 NBT out of my 06 for deer. Only shot 4 or 5 with it. I can’t remember one ever taking a step.

I always like the 165 BTSP from hornady.

Speer 150gr Hot-Cor or the Sierra 150gr Pro Hunter, both work equally well on deer.

I've had good results on deer with 165 partitions over 57.0 gr of IMR 4350. I now use 57.0 gr of RL 16. Better accuracy, good velocity, temp insensitive, and copper remover. My M700 classic shot its best group ever with RL 16.

46gr H4895 topped with a 150gr NP. Pretty much a .308-equivalent. Mild, deadly, and has been quite accurate in three different rifles.

As long as you stay under 400 yards and preferably 350 a 130 grain TTSX is pretty hard to beat. You get nice flat trajectory, identical performance from 25 feet to 350 yards, accuracy and lead free meat without wrecking meat. Heavier monos might give you a little bit more range, but not a lot.

Most of my 30-06's I have owned will shoot 58.0grs of Accurate or IMR 4350 with a 168gr Nosler Ballistic Tip really well,but my most recent rifle I have really likes 57.0grs of Reloader-16.

I like the good ol 165 grain Sierra Game King over 57 gr. If IMR-4350. This bullet works very well with IMR-4064 as well.
