They go pretty damn good with fresh backstraps when you're in camp! This, plus we'll also used that boxed stuffing once in awhile.

We keep them on hand. Our quick meal is canned deer meat and instant potatoes. I can have a meal ready in 10 minutes.

The Idahoan loaded potato soup is good too for a fast warm meal.

I love them too. Sometimes a package is all I have for dinner .Lots of butter and some coarse ground pepper, Mmmmmm. Nothing wrong with home made smashed potatoes of course.

I use them as thickener in a lot of things. Exactly. They are great in soups and stews as a thickener. I keep them on hand to use solely in soups and stews.

The powdered variety with a bit of seasoning makes a pretty good dredge for trout.

ya i use them when i do big cooks for the legion dinners or otherwise. oreida i think is the brand i use. they turn out great and nobody complains. follow the directions on the box to the letter. they seem a little sloppy at first but set up nicely after a bit.
but if i do a family sized dinner, i still go native.

If made with milk and butter, they are not too bad. If just made with water, they are nasty. They make a good thickener for soups.

The brands really vary ....if we have a left over baked tater, I will prep the instant ones , but peel an crush the old Baker into the water , once it boils ...carry on ... good stuff

Had em once on the hospital when I had my shoulder surgery. Decided it was better to go hungry. Those things were awful.
