Wow. Not many here do their own work?

One thing I really emphasize when buying new tires is for an A number 1 balance job. And wheel runout check. Properly mounted and balanced tires are always the starting point.

Whatever I'm driving, the tires get rotated during the winter/summer change, which I do myself in the shop for company and personal vehicles. Mark the meats with tire chalk as to where they were when taken off (inside sidewall) and then upon taking off the racks, look carefully at the tread blocks. Sometimes figure eight is appropriate, sometimes front to back. Depending on what we see in the tread, might be appropriate to adjust air pressure from factory recommendations.

Never mind that tire change is also a great time to check your brakes, bearings and suspension integrity, closely monitor any anomalies or trends.

Every other oil change until they get a little sketchy then the best tread should stay on the front.

I change my oil every 5k miles, and pull all my own wrenches. The secret in making a tire last is having the proper air pressure in the tire. To much air pressure wears the center not enough wears the outside.

Every 5000 miles at oil change time as recommended on my 09 Tacoma. That and proper inflation gets me over 50 thousand miles out of a set of tires. I get the tires from my Toyota dealer and the deal is free mounting & balancing & rotation for the life of the tires. They also store your winter tires (on rims) for free during the off season if you buy them there. I got two complete sets of tires on wheels.... One for summer one for winter. Come spring I'll have the summer wheels & tires put back on and the winter ones stored. It's amazing how long your tires last when you only use 'em 6 months a year.
