I use them for 7/8 oz in AA, STS and similar hulls with most powders. In larger capacity hulls such as Federal, Fiocchi, and the like, I use them with 1 oz of shot especially if using bulkier powders. The crush section is longer with these wads so they take up enough space for decent crimps without having to touch the reloader settings.

I have not had a problem with powder migration when using AA style wads in straight wall hulls. Most of my loading is with flake powders and I haven't had any problems, even with some reloads I still have which date back to the late 1970s. These are 3" 20 gay Federal hulls, WAA20 wads, and Blue Dot powder. If one "candles" them, a particle or two may be seen on the wrong side of the over powder section but one would not know if it occurred when loaded or at some later point.
I have some other loads that utilize some clear Fiocchi or Cheddite hulls, WAA12114 wads, and Win 571/ Hodgdon HS-7 powder. Most of these have been bouncing around vehicles and pockets since the mid-1990s and they are much the same.
There are some who speak of very different experiences but I haven't had any myself. Nor have any of those I regularly shoot with that reload. For over a decade I was loading over 15,000 rounds a year of just 12 ga and a fair percentage of that used WAA wads and straight walled cases. If I would have had issues I would not have continued on that track.

My shooting partner who shoots 3/4 oz loads exclusively uses the Winchester AA 12L (grey) wad with Alliant "Extra Light" powder. He had used 700X for years in all his reloads continuing to use 700X for 3/4 oz loads and just switched over to using Alliant Extra Light powder which burns so much cleaner than 700X.

thanks guys. dirty powder never bothers me. people who shoot clean powder tend not to inspect and clean a gun after every use. 700x forces me to be a good boy. :>

Not pick'en on your bobski... but I just can't understand shotshell reloaders attraction to IMR 700X when there are so many newer "Cleaner" burning powders available today. Even old "Red Dot" was reformulated some years back to make the powder cleaner burning. I am in that group that does not clean their shotgun after every use.....WHY?? The gun doesn't even appear to have been shot in a while.

I use them in both Winchester AA 12 gauge hulls and Remington Premier 12 gauge hulls. Load both with Clays powder (different load for each hull - one relatively low pressure for older British sxs and one higher pressure and velocity for a Perazzi shooting international style wobble trap). Different hulls lets me keep my loads separate with just a glance. I've never had a bit of trouble with either load.

because.........
ive been loading it for over 40 years. all my presses are set up for all my powders. I stopped playing musical powders and wads when I found all the ones that work in my guns. all my guns perform the same. and the wads and powder perform same. pretty simple.
when ya got a recipe for the best apple pie, don't go putting more sugar in it. :>
btw, when they changed the red dot recipe, it effected my load performance, to a point that I no longer load fed hulls or use 12SO anymore. I went back to rem hulls.
thank GOD 700x is 700x. its a rock solid unchanged powder....in this world of having to have 15 different choices for everything and anything.
that's why I don't need these 7/8oz wads. im a 1 1/8oz old school shooter.

I figured you been shooting "700X" for at least 30 years as most 700X shooters have been shooting the powder forever......but not 40 years. "GRINNING" I have to admit I am a 7/8 oz shooter.....my tolerance to recoil is not what it used to be. SHOOT AWAY MY FRIEND.

hey whats a bag of 500 cbwaa12L gray wads go for these days? Around $14 in the store for Winchester brand, $11 for clones. Most likely be able to sell them for $8-$10 including shipping if needed.

That’s a great wad for a great load. I have shot over 75,000 of these, 7/8 oz, usually with Clays powder. Amazingly good patterns, even at ranges over 40 yards, as long as high antimony shot is in them. I buy them by the case of 5000. I load them in Remington STS hulls, but they are also good in AA of course.
