Reliable set and forget, at a good price IS a strong selling point for those whose requirments are met by that. For me, in some cases it is, in others it ain't. Just depends on the rifle. A good example where dialing for distance isn't a goal, but dependable changes are a convenient plus would be a rimfire that might be switched from one ammo type or lot to another pretty often. Some have claimed that a scope that won't dial accurately repeatedly also won't hold zero, but I suspect that the two aren't necessarily irrevocably linked. Materials or design may allow for limited adjustment episodes but not hold up through multiple changes.

Or so I suspect....

It’s is 2020. We can send rocket ships to and back from the space station with a highly probable chance of being successful. You can shift your whatever into 4wd and be fairly certain it will do so over 200,000miles. Precision instruments of all kinds work reliably in labs for extended periods of time and use.

Yet a dial on a rifle scope is an obstacle that stumps the geniuses of the riflescopes world?

The answer may lie in the genius that resides in your smart phone, and not the historic parts that reside in a riflescope.

We used to have a poster here by the handle of Savage99.....Had a bunch of nice gear, but had a problem in that he was clueless when it came to most things rifle and hunting. He took a hell of beating for it....One of his favorites was telling us to yell "MAW!!!!" when a Deer was on the run. Said it would stop them every time....I always felt a little sorry for him and the beating he took....You are getting close to following in his footsteps....

He's been there for 8+ years. His naivety really came to pass with his 17 HMR discussions. Internet classics....
