can't believe there is 6 pages on this , and likely more to come. We all must be cabin-bound and bored. I am guilty of beating a dead horse.
It's about to get worse, much worse..... Handled a Bergara B-14 today. oh hell.

I've owned a .260 for at least 5-7 yrs, but its hard to argue against the 6.5 Creedmoor simply based on the factory options in not only ammo, but guns as well. Brass is also cheaper, and a lot easier to find.
260 has slightly better velocity and less pressure in almost all loadings. Ability to neck down 7mm-08 & 308 brass. 260 doesn't require a manbun
Buttstock, where in the great state of Maine do you live? Clinton, ME: "The dairy capital of Maine.". Factoid: there are more cows in Clinton, ME than people- and I like it that way. https://www.clinton-me.usThe closest Wal-Mart is in Waterville. I know exactly where you are. Pretty spot!

How much, exactly? In fps, and in yards?

How much, exactly? In fps, and in yards? 0, nearly all load data out out there shows slightly higher velocities for the Creed in the heavier bullets most prefer. With longer 140gr class bullets seated at 2.8" OAL, the Creed has slightly higher net case capacity, and is loaded a few kpsi higher, so no real surprise. There's really no great reason to start with a .260 these days, unless you plan on punching it out to an AI, or just get a kick out of being different for the sake of being different.

The Dutch just adopted the 260 as their machine gun round due to it feeding more reliably than the Creed. Maybe that will generate some renewed excitement in the debate.

Well, MidwayUSA has 24 ammo choices for the 260 Rem, 72 for the Creedmoor. That should tell you something!

They bought the other 2 when they hired 4 Navy sailors to man the dike patrol boat, and the other one for the 6 Marines to share....

Early Remington chamberings in 260 Rems had a 1:10 twist, then changed to 1:9 but still missing the boat for 140 gr bullets and up. The Creedmoor is typically chambered/barreled at 1:8. The 260 was hamstrung from the beginning.

The 260 Rem is a great chamber provided you use at least a 3” magazine and action, otherwise it’s hamstrung on a 2.85” magazine and action. The 6.5 Creedmoor was designed for a 2.85” length and that’s what makes it very attractive for use in most manufactured standard SA turn bolt rifles. Simple as that.

Max SAAMI OAL for a 260 is 2.800"
Max SAAMI OAL for a Creedmoor is 2.825"
Both are screwed trying to seat the pressure ring of 147 Hornady above the neck/shoulder juncture and keep in a 2.800" mag box of a 700.

SAMMI specs, you think match shooters in 260 Rem and 260 AI aren’t fudging above 2.8”. Most SA will get you approximately 2.85” on mag box, there are a couple like Ruger or Howa that lend an additional .03”- .04” of room. Remington not so much. The Creedmoor is a better design by far already accounting for the trial and tribulations of 6.5mm projectiles. That’s just the way it is in the fast twist, heavy for caliber high BC world that came much later than Carmichel’s 6.5 Panther, circa 1980.
BTW it is this reason many love the 6.5x47 Lapua, fits like a glove in a true SA with no real fuss.

Skip both. have some fun.
Put some BIG BALLS on it and get a .264 Winchester Mag. and a 26" tube.
loaded down for the .260 performance and 6.5 cr. and back up for everything else.
3 capabilities in one.
Same as the Big 7....and all the lesser 7mm cases. You get all to go to the party in one cartridge.
