That song "Patches" you posted, I first heard played at a house party after a country dance in Wabigoon of all places. Mom and Dad had some of the folks from the hall over, and Alex Parenteau and the Swinging Tomahawks sang the song. I couldn't have been more than 12 years old. Alex had a great voice.
"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." (Prov 4:23)
What about "Things have gone to Pieces" by George Jones? It was a real Tear Jerker of a Country song. It predated "He stopped Loving her today" by about 15 years. He had a whole string of early hits back in the late 50s and all through the 60s. Some of them were "She Thinks I still care," " Just a Girl I used to know," "I'm developing my pictures" "If My Heart Had Windows" yes he did it nearly 20 years before Patty Lovelace. George truly was Country when Country wasn't Cool.
A tear may appear when I hold you near but that's for the sweet things you do, If my heart had windows, you'd see a heart full of love just for you.
She Thinks I still care, Just because I ask a friend about her, just because I spoke her name somewhere, just because I rang her number by mistake today, She thinks I still care.
Just a girl I used to know, There's a picture that I carry, One we made some time ago, when they ask who's in the picture with me, I say just a girl I used to know.
I'm developing my pictures, My minds a dark room, The proofs I'm searching for will be made here soon, I'm developing my pictures, of the girl I admire, So I can see you and know you as you really are.
Well the faucet started dripping in the kitchen And last night your picture fell down off the wall, Today the boss said sorry, I can't use you anymore'and tonight the light bulb went out in the hall, Things have gone to pieces, since you left me, nothin' turns out half right now it seems, there ain't nothin' in my pocket but three nickles and a dime, But I'm holding to the pieces of my dreams...
God I loved his music. and as Johnny Cash and a few more have said, he truly was the greatest country singer ever to have lived.
If this was before your time and these lyrics make you curious I recommend you do a you tube search, All his songs are there and more. His music is truly a blessing for anyone that likes tear jerking old fashion country music, or just a johnny come lately George Jones fan.
