If I have to sacrifice the slug barrel that’s no big deal at all. I was only trying to make more out of the purchase with that thought. Turkeys and predators are priority. I have an inline for deer

here are some of reasons why a 12 gauge is better always 1. ammo is cheaper
2. 12 gauge ammo has better assortment available
3. 12 gauge shotguns for the most put are bigger and heavier so recoil is about the same
4. 12 gauges don`t jam as easy as a 20 gauge in a semi-auto
5. 12 gauge is a better waterfowl shotgun because you have more shot in the air
6. 12 gauge has more shot so it does hit targets in the air better
7. if your not an expert you will never shoot it as well on clay/bird targets
8. for home defense 12 gauge throws more shot might save your life ?
i am sure there are more reason to buy a 12 gauge over a 20 gauge, matter fact i am getting a 10 gauge for my son for late season goose hunting because a 12 gauge does not knock these big birds down very well and my son has a 24.3 average in trap ,he is one of the best trap shooters around our area,so i seen him hit these big birds and they just don`t go down very easy. in shotguns bigger is always better , i own many 20 gauge shotguns but i just mostly shot them for fun ,i own half dozen 410`s too another fun shotgun, but when i hunt with a shotgun give me a 12 gauge most of us need all the help we can get.

Of the three you looked at, the Tri-Star is the best. The Weatherby SA-08 and Mossberg SA-20 are good ones too for Turkish guns

I bought a Remington compact 20 gauge 11/87 when Wally World had them priced at $169.00. It's a nice shotgun, came with 3 chokes and stock spacers to adjust length of pull and sling swivels.

Forget the 20 gauge if your reason is recoil. For hunting you won't notice the recoil. For clay target sports you can buy 7/8 ounce and 1.0 ounce 12 gauge loads. You won't find those at the local Walley World but can order them delivered to your door.

I would buy modern Beretta gas-operated semi-auto if you can afford one.

+2 on the Beretta.

The Tristar is a very well-made, well-finished shotgun that basically copies the old Beretta 300-series gas system.

It's the pick of the litter.

And with both Bismuth and TSS shot readily available, the 12 gauge isn't needed for anything anymore.

I agree on the Beretta until you consider the slug barrel. Can you get a slug barrel for a Beretta 20 gauge, or a 12 gauge, for that matter? I doubt it.

What do you guys think about a versamax

The Versamax is not available in a 20 gauge. They are the easiest recoiling shotgun that I have ever shot in a 12 gauge.

Franchi is owned by Beretta, but the Affinity and a Beretta have very different actions. I’m pretty sure the Affinity is inertia driven, which I am not a fan of, A Beretta will be gas operated, which I much prefer. A gas operated 20 gauge is a puppy dog to handle.

I bought an 11-87 full camo compact for the grandkids to turkey hunt with. Have ended up using it myself , and really like it. With good shells and a good choke, a 20 will kill a turkey as far as a person needs to be ethically shooting them.

I’m lukewarm at best on 11-87’s but have always liked the LT 20’s. Great shooting gun.

My 11-87 has a habit of launching its charging handle.

My 1100 20 gauge's nickname was the "jamomatic." Worst Remington gun I've ever owned.
