for a really good price in 6.5x47 Lapua...Rig has sat idling in a safe for 2 years. 1000 rounds on the barrel. Stiller TAC 30 action. Brux #5 contour with a Muscle Brake. All sitting in a Manner MCS-T3 handle.

I wouldn’t have considered buying it, but a pard had recently called me asking if I’d be interested in 1400 rounds of new loaded 6.5x47 LAP ammo at a good price he had laying about.

Seemed like a solid plan coming together...Until I bought the rig, called my buddy asking about the ammo and him telling me he’s got a guy already interested in the ammo....Well Shît!

If the ammo situation works out...I’m balls deep in ammo and Lapua brass. If not, I’m starting from scratch and building loads with dies I will need to buy. Impulse buys sometimes work out....Sometimes not, so much. 😎

This rig is just beggin for a Beaver spray painting overhaul. Introducing Orange against the OD should set it off right properly.

I have a track suit in that color combo.

Shame on the seller for leaving the NF rings on for photos, when he intended to exclude them.

Fortunately, I’ve gotten some excellent assistance on loading for this rifle...I’m not ashamed to admit, I didn’t know much, if anything about the the X47 Lapua...

I’ve gotten a lot of solid reports that this chambering and obviously Pierce being the builder should make this rig an absolute tack driving machine.

Anyone else care to share what and why this chambering is so successful? I’ve been reading and it’s apparently a favorite flavor for PRS comp shooters.

Any reports as a killing rifle for deer, antelope or coyotes? Just trying to learn about it and actual owners would be helpful instead of me web prowling for information.

Thanks in advance....😎

Thinking so too, Don...Seller said he’d played with it out to 1400 yards with good hits doing his part behind the scope.

Based on the size of the muffler hanging off the barrel. I’d say recoil will be reduced to a point of seeing hits/misses without a problem. 😎

Don, I believe Kurt told me 140 Bergers and Varget has been his choice lately and yes that was one hell of a 1000yd group!

The lapua round has been really easy to load for. The 3 we have are sporting .170 freebore. Here are 3 rounds that all shoot great in all 3 rigs.

41.2 IMR4451, 140 vld, cci450
39.8 H4350, 147 eld, cci450
37.7 Varget, 135 classic, cci450

That 135 load is sub .30 for 5 rounds in the 2 I shoot it in. And it held up well per Don's comment at 1000 too. I'd shoot or hunt any of those 3 loads with no worries. Got a muffler on all 3 and can't imagine a much more fun round to shoot or hunt with.

Don bailed me out on the Varget stash. Had a bottle of IMR4166 that was going to get tested but instead started loading up Varget and 135s for this falls hunts.

I wondered why muzzle brakes on lighter recoiling rifles. Now I know. I wouldn't have guessed it but it makes sense.

Not a new article, but maybe you haven't seen it.

https://www.accurateshooter.com/cartridge-guides/65x47/

As far as deer and the like, think 260 Remington or 6.5 Creedmoor ballistics. Prone to be accurate, moderate recoil, plenty of power for the job.

That’s really good stuf guys....Thank you!

30338, Aalf was also talking up the Varget to me earlier...Sounds like some Varget and 135g Classics could be good stuff.

CB, I heard the same from another member who called me last night...I kept looking and reading trying to see what was missing in the ad because it didn’t make sense to me based on the asking price...I called the seller and asked if this was just the barreled action? Nope, full build. Ok, I’ll take it....

He owns several high end builds. Plays with them for a while, then moves on to his next project. A perfect Loon. Grins 😎

H4350 has always given me higher velocities than Varget from 130s to 147s....started with CCI Mag SRPs.

I wouldn't overlook R17 either.

Read an article on loads the PRS guys are using. 17 guys using 6.5x47 in competition. 14 were using Varget and 3 using H4350. I’d start with those 2. And if you can’t find them imr4451 or imr4166. But it seems to shoot about anything well.

The 140 vld shot very well too with the Varget load they were using. The 140 vld expanded and penetrated very well with an impact velocity around 2050 fps last fall.

My bud came through with the goods for my x47 Lapua rig.

1200 Rounds of new Lapua made ammo with 123g Scenar bullets.
Huge concession on his part letting go of his stash.

Thanks EHG!

Great news on the ammo.

As has been mentioned, Varget is a great powder for this cartridge-- I've had great results with it and both 123 Scenars and 140 Bergers.

Took the rig and new Lapua loaded ammo out yesterday morning to see what I got myself into...

I did good, finally, on everything from purchase price for the rifle, to the bulk ammo buy. In my life, every once in a while things fall into place....This is one of those few times....😎

Thanks Tom....Like I said, it’s nice when something comes together smoothly. God knows I fuss around with rigs and scopes enough to baffle most looking in.

Gonna take this one to Wyoming for a deer hunt is the plan.

Stay well friend....😎

Ryan Pierce builds a hell of a rifle.

You’re gonna have a blast making brass with that pile!

I might have to help.

Nice rig Beav, and nice shootin'. FWIW.........I have a coonasss bud that has an old AETEC on his 30-06, and he's a game killing sonofabuck. It looks like he's drug it through those Louisiana briars a few times over the past 20 years.

I bet you could call Ryan for some advice on that exact rifle. He’s a hell of a nice guy and yes, he builds some shockingly accurate rifles! Best of luck!
