Same here.
I get a monthly report and only look at it then. Should get it soon and I expect a drop of 10%, but have sold nothing.

Market's down, but you've only lost if you bought a loss (ie., selling).

I sold about 10% of my taxable investments 3 weeks ago before the drop (felt the market was getting too giddy!) and have been putting about $1,000 to 2,000 per day back into it (into an S&P500 index fund) each day over the past 1.5 weeks. I also re-allocated IRA and 401K holdings by moving positions into closer-horizon target-date funds to reduce equity exposure, thus eliminating any current tax implications. I'll keep doing this until I feel the market is at a low point and then dump the balance of cash into a fund.

This strategy worked well in 2009 and it will work again. I certainly don't know how low,the market will fall or when it will return, but this is my strategy.

Well, technically you have lost value even if you didn’t sell. Just like when it went up for ten years you gained value without selling.

Quote: essentially the market moved in a huge circle this week and wound up just about where it started.
Translation: It was a great week for managed money.
Buy low sell high..

If your account could have been turned into $100K and now is worth only 80K you have in fact lost 20K that you may or may not regain.

This.
I haven't lost anything because I haven't sold anything. Its not a loss until its realized.

Not a bit like during the last times. Riding out my investments until things go north again. I have 3 years before retiring and I can extend if I have to. I have a year of cash if I have to punch out on time.
