Cookie came along and snapped a few pics. Central Oregon's largest spring creek. Gin clear, temp varies about 2 degrees F over a year, and averages about 48 degrees. One will not last long in the water without waders. Rainbow and Bull trout, but the fish are extremely well educated. Rainbow - Nothing for scale, but about a 24 incher, and no it did not come to hand. A Dipper Not too colorful, but entertaining to watch when they get to work. Always amazing to see them walk along the bank or a log, suddenly submerge completely, and then emerge again 5 or 10 ft upstream.

Metolius (Which means river of stinking fish) Salmon used to run to Blue and Suttle Lakes underground. Kinda neat as my Grandpa used to fish Suttle lake.
Very neat river used to go to the headwaters when I was young, and watch it flow out of the hillside!

Nice pics.
Every time I see someone post pictures of beautiful trout streams I can't help but think, "I could probably afford to go on 2-3 fishing trips for every 1 hunting trip." Hell, It would be warmer, and easier to plan for when things are slow here.
You didn't mention how the fishing was, but I can't imagine you not enjoying the trip.

LJBass: The trip was mostly to just sit back and relax in tall timber shade beside the river. About 7:00 PM each evening I suited up and waded in right at the upstream end of the campground. Mostly tossed a Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear. Score was typically 3-4 hits and two landed in an hour covering about 40 linear yards. That was good enough, as one starts to chill down if wading deep. Did not see much in the way of surface activity though. Nothing finer than nailing a fish when knows it's there.

Wow, looks great... I have not caught one trout this year... Only fished about 15 minutes on the Beaverhead last month... We are headed out camping, fishing and hunting just after Labor Day... Hopefully the fall fishing will be good.. Really not much of a fisherman any more, but it is fun when I get into the swing..

It's getting close to the time to get up there and fish this again. Great river especially during the weeks before school's out and in the fall after school's in. Can get crowded during the summer months

beautiful river/country. Must be fairly low if the snow is gone.
I did not think about til you posted these pictures, but did not see one Water Ouzel in CO last year, though my time there was limited.

Kk alaska: I spent a LOT of time as a teenager doing "field hand work" in the Madras, Redmond and Bend areas. We would take a break and fish and float the Metolious River - I will enclose the "Wikipedia" explanation of the word "metolious". Great memories from nearly 60 years ago, bought back, none the less, with the original posters pictures
Metolious Wikipedia link:
Dang, link won't copy - Wikipedia defines Metolious as from a Sahaptin Indian (Warm Springs) word "Mitula" that means white salmon! Oohhh.... to be young again. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
