I hope you can get it sold....few higher end shotguns are as reliable and balanced as a Model 12 16 gauge.

well if my FFL wasn't shut down because of the virus junk, I'd probably get it from him. Will you send me some close ups.

The serial number dating to 1915 is correct. This was undoubtedly opened up and modified (properly) to shoot and function with 2 3/4” shells. Factory 2 3/4” barrels began in 1926. Same frame size.
These guns, and especially the early ones, were beautifully hand fitted and very smooth. This is a great gun.
And OBTW, find me a better field repeater or any type with the handling qualities, light weight and power of this 16 ga. in a hand-fitted all steel American-made shotgun. And for $475? Good luck. Quite a bargain.

The Greatest Hammer less Repeating Shotgun Ever Built! I have quite a few more expensive shotguns, O/U, SXS, and semis but the old Model 12 16 Gauge gets the most days in the field. Great balance, light weight and loads of memories. Points like my forefinger. I'm also a shotgun looney! Somebody better grab this before I weaken and get a back up.

The only reason I held back was because if someone is going to fiddle on a Model 12, then I would like to know who was doing the fiddling. Winchester’s roll stamps were fairly characteristic in their style, and the 2 3/4 stamping may tell the tale. If Winchester did the work, then they probably also went over the entire gun for function. They definitely didn’t put on what appears to be a fluorescent front bead.
Simmons also did quality work on Model 12’s

Winchester original.... Definitely different....but still doesn't answer the question....One would have to see an authenticated Winchester modification to come to any conclusion..... However, the polishing looks to have been well done and didn’t rub out the stamping....

There are a number of places that could easily have done this work to top notch standards - Simmons, Wright’s, Turnbull, Nu-Line and Art’s just to name a few - that would and in this case most likely have produced work that is closely akin to factory and fully functional. This piece is described as refinished as well, and is held forward as a fine using gun for the less than princely sum of $475. Great gun, especially for the money.

All 16 gauge Model 12 Winchesters where built on the 20 gauge frame. They make nice handling shotguns in the 16 gauge models. I have owned several over the years myself, all on 20 gauge frame.

The 28, 20 and 16 were all on the 20gauge frame.... Same with the Parker originals and the Parker Reproductions by Winchester....You could get a 16gauge on the 20gauge frame.....

As I stated in the description "restored", the gun was in this condition when I purchased it a dozen years ago. Whoever did the work was not an amateur, the finish is beautiful. I can only assume the chamber was lengthen and the barrel stamped 2 3/4 prior to being reblued. (Winchester custom shop may have done it),and it is a 26" barrel battue,(I was a machinist for 45 years, I can read a tape).
I've got a 26" barreled modified choke 16 gauge I bought from John Barsness . It's a factory 26" barrel and modified, rather rare from that time era. Nice gun and I gave a lot more than $465 for it years ago. A 26" barrel Model 12 in 16 gauge has to be one of the nicest handling shotguns ever made. From the looks of the pictures, this is a great gun for the money. I wouldn't be afraid of having the chamber lengthened and port opened up, quite common for the early models. Looking at the way the barrel was properly stamped, i would say who ever did it was more than capable of doing the job right.
