two of the worst things to happen in the last century ushered in a period of nationalism and prosperity; the depression and ww2. if this isn't a wakeup call to people, govt and business to do things differently i don't know what is. maybe i'm too optimistic. as much as i hate more govt involvement, i can see where federal regulations requiring certain portions of the supply chain to be 100% mfg in the US by US owned companies would be good for companies, workers and the country. and i sure hope that other countries see the folly of allowing a 3rd world communist schithole to essentially own their means of production is a really bad idea. let them make our cheap tv's and tennis shoes, but that's it.
I guess I see the effects of those two events differently than you, at least in the long term. The depression established the federal govt as the security blanket for Americans, which started all the entitlement spending that's killing us today. WW2 established the US as the world's policeman, and kicked off the military industrial complex.
What I really hope for is that enough people who vote realize that the bureaucracy, and the promise of utopia if we just enact more liberty-depriving laws, are not only counterproductive, they are impediments to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Included in this, of course, are the oppressive gun laws that the left claim make us all safer. It didn't take much for the government to shut down fundamental rights and fail to provide basic services and I really hope this is not lost on the younger folks.
Eliminate qualified immunity and you'll eliminate cops who act like they are above the law.
Other than having some events canceled, I'm not seeing a nightmare.
What is really bright is I'm not seeing/hearing candidates of all makes and models on the evening news. With nothing of substance or new, however, I'm passing on the news and going over to the History channel for those hours.
A bright side? Probably going to be a mini baby boom in a few months. Couples are having to stay home with each other. Governors are ordering abortion providers to close (elective procedure). So probably not a net loss of population, just a rearrangement of the age structure.
Patriotism (and religion) is the last refuge of a scoundrel.
Also take the yearly flu serously. allowing 20 to 50 thousand people to die every year in the US cause airlines allow mf to travel with the flu and wear no protective equipment and people work and trsvel with symptoms spreading death. All this needs to be stopped. Schools are zones of death for the elderly where their grandkids and kids catch their demise.....
Yes Bringing the Jobs back here and keeping American Companies going is ideal but we need to work and trust Countries with good intentions. China is having a Power Play with the U.S because they got some Money in their pocket. We could work with the Japs and Vietnam. China needs to learn some lesson after the country is in recession and they are too many mouths to feed.
Is there a bright side to this nightmare? Yep. Italy and Spain might lead a worldwide Christian repentance, including for the enslavement/annihilation of New World people. Wouldn't it be interesting if the Roman Catholic church did more than apologize for Portugal's role in African slavery? In the name of rum, sugar and precious metal mines (Pope Alexander VI especially in 1493-4) "the church" permitted great horror. Cotton and tobacco production in the US are a tiny portion of why slavery happened. The Brits and Dutch started with spices.
I could see education in the future making a huge change because of the the Covid.
Ya, a big shove towards online education, which brings a whole new set of issues. Frankly I aināt happy to see anything that keeps us even more glued to our computers.

This is the most beautiful time of year in Texas, and Iām enjoying the heck out of getting outside to experience it š
