Sorry my title was misleading. I was referring more to a change in the "power" structure than any effect virus had. So, and so big dude got killed by a truck, Well what kind of Truck was it-- sort of thing. As far as the virus goes, two of the top companies in the field are on top of it . AURP, and Myrid genetics. I assure you, Utah is wide awake. HMMMM some of them are. Don't say this in Taylorsville though.

Utah is pretty firmly shut down, and the results are starting to show. Remember, most of the people who got sick with COVID19 last week were exposed the week before. The proportion of sick people tested who were positive has dropped, and the proportion vs. the day before is right on the edge of being statistically significant. (56/1333 vs. 108/2001) LDS General Conference will be broadcast, as usual except that nobody but the speakers will attend live. Everybody is welcome to watch the broadcast. All LDS church services are cancelled until further notice. Temples are all closed. Many missionaries have been pulled out of their assignments. All of the returning missionaries are just coming off 14 days of isolation in-country. Yes, the spectacle of large numbers of family members congregating in the airport to greet them was an embarrassment. They have put a stop to that. One family member is allowed to drive into the airport, and one person escorts one missionary to the car.

Actually, when someone shows up with a flu or cold - I run like hell. Have for years. "See ya next week, I'm outta here". And I send people home as well. No need to share.

280, me too...
I read a scary post where someone said that since Covid-19 is amongst us. We all will at some point contract it.
Maybe not during this initial phase, but eventually, we all will be directly exposed to it by someone else....Same as any other flu bug.
Idk, but, I think most of us will eventually hit the VID lottery and come down with it. Come on vaccine!

My system always seems to be looking for a new challenge. If someone has it, my immune system wants to try it on.

it's just the flu, right?
Wonder if Utah has shut down religious services?
Condolences to Mr Garff's family and friends.
Geno I keep seeing that phrase pop up. Is anybody really saying that it is just the flu? The question that I have seen is whether the response has been justified by the threat. Is that not a legitimate question to ask? 1'st question: Yes, several members here. One who still insists on calling it "the cold virus". 2'nd question: lets revisit it when the daily death toll hits 10,000 in the USA.

Regarding the idea that we will all get COVID19 no matter what, I ask you: did everyone eventually get the Spanish Flu? The Swine Flu? Nope. These things, at least in their deadly forms, don't survive well over the summer for some reason, and typically disappear (mutate into a relatively harmless form) within a couple of years.
Viruses are a kind of a parasite, i.e, they depend on living hosts to propagate their species. The more severe they are in terms of symptoms, the less they are doing their own survival any favors, since dead people, and people sick in bed, don't spread them very efficiently (nor do people who stay isolated for fear of contracting it). So mutations that are less harmful quickly displace forms that are more harmful.
The best case scenario from the perspective of a flu germ is to mutate into something with symptoms like the common cold, so people who have it remain up and about, and alive, so they can efficiently spread it around from host to host without killing them or making them bedridden. Having the effect of being deadly to its host, in other words (from the perspective of nature), is a fault in a flu virus that nature seeks to correct, as it is non-survival-adaptive from the perspective of the germ.

Makes me happy to hear that as so many do not, either run like hell or send people home. Geno

Geno Church services were cancelled weeks ago, the buildings are off limits for any activities, all temples worldwide are shut down, most missionaries in foreign countries are being returned home. Our spring General Conference, which draws 20,000 people for each session, is being being broadcast on TV/streamed online only. I can assure you , the LDS church is taking it very seriously.

If the daily death rate stays the same as it was today, we should be at 20,000 deaths in about 4 weeks. I bet we get to 20,000 deaths 3 weeks from now.
