Maybe part of this comes from my years in the USN, being on the oceans for days/weeks at a time in all parts of the world.. I just loved it..

You do realize that Alaskan cruises are during the summer months? When we went on ours, it was in the 50-60s, which we consider perfect weather.

A little snow and ice won't bother us in the least. The scenery would be well worth it.

Riverboat cruise through Amawaterways up the Rhine from Amsterdam Netherlands to Basel Switzerland. Absolutely spectacular scenery and history. When all this dies down, I'd consider it again.

There are cruises and then there are cruises.

There is no need to ever go to a buffet, but I know they are popular in the US.

I like Cunard Queen's Grill, always a private dining room, and the food is decent too. No inside cabins for me. Only a balcony and room service when needed. One can order anything on the QG menu for evening dining in your own room.

Took granddaughter to the Baltic on Regal Princess. We had a suite with a balcony. Suites dine in a separate breakfast room, have a concierge lounge for snacks, drinks etc and dine in the Club dining section for dinner. Buffet is totally optional at all meals.

There ARE options. But most of you are too cheap-ass to pay for them.

And yeah, the Caribbean is pretty low rent.

There's one thing you can at a packed restaurant or football stadium - walk out. You can't walk away from a ship that's wandering around 20 miles offshore with no place to dock. That's what's going on now. The ship can be as sterile as a hospital but still have 1 infected passenger who passes his crud around. That's what's happened to 15 ships in the last couple weeks. The passengers are stuck and can't get out. They're there just waiting for their turn to catch it. Yes, there have been ships in the past who had sick passengers, but not with quarantines like we're seeing now. You'd be nuts to get on a ship right now. You might be out there a lot longer than you have vacation days saved up.

If you go on a cruise you should have your will and all estate planning signed & sealed and with the executor of your estate.

CRUISING

Won't happen before or after this. No desire to be cooped up with a bunch of idiots.

I wouldn't take a cruise without a pandemic...

I would never take a cruise. Locked on a ship with thousands of people, at least half of whom are inebriated at all times of day, at the mercy of wind and weather, stopping and going according to schedule instead of spending time where you want... No way.

Why would you think that half the people are drunk?
