Of course this is a sad deal, a mother and daughter dying this way is sad.... we all know that.

The thing is if it wasn't the Kennedy's this would not be a national news story.

How many children die of starvation in Zimbabwe every year are we to mourn for all of them daily?

So Miguel, save your virtue signaling for someone else......

Some cold hearted ,sorry people here on the campfire nowadays. I always thought the hunters campfire was a place to discuss just about anything. A mother and her 8 year old son perished in an avoidable, but tragic accident. No compassion for that?

Hey Miguel, did you hear About prince Harry & Megan? Trump told them they have to pay for their own security! omg
That cold hearted sob has put them in danger... if anything happens to them he will have blood on his hands... I am outraged!

I’d call it karma, but damn, an eight year old and his momma? That’s rough.

I ever board a plane and see a Kennedy, I’m out!

Why no PFD's? Mother should have at least had the son wearing one!

Or.......possibly life jackets could have allowed them to right the boat, rather than just striving to stay afloat......til it was too late.

Common sense appears relatively rare.....even here.

Some day the Kennedy's will learn that nature doesn't care about their last name.

Back when Curtis LeMay was head of the Strategic Air Command, he started to climb onto an airplane with a lit cigar in his mouth. One of his staff suggested that maybe he should put the cigar out, because the airplane might blow up. "It wouldn't dare!" was his response. Kennedys aren't the only people with a sense of arrogant entitlement!

Spent 30 years about 6 miles south of there, on the bay. Any idiot that goes out after a ball with a canoe in those conditions, has no idea what they are doing. A sad accident, Darwin rears his head again.

I'm pretty confident in a canoe and have taken them through some serious crap but, with the wind blowing offshore, in that area, I would be pretty reluctant to set out. GD

I have a lot of canoe experience. I have travelled in a canoe in some pretty bad wind, and waves, in Quetico Park in Ontario.
I can see how this would happen. The soccer ball goes into the water, it is only 20 feet from shore, the canoe and paddles are right there, you could just paddle out and be back on shore in 3 minutes. No time to get back to the house for the life jackets, but, they are probably good swimmers and thought they only needed to go 20 feet.

Sounds like something I would have done.

But you miscalculate the wind, and before you know it you are 100 yards out, the waves are getting bigger and the wind is blowing stronger than you can paddle. You are screwed.

Precisely.
Sad deal.
