Would a standard .45ACP die work as well??
Other than not needing to lube the case, is there a difference in the dimensions of the carbide die that make it preferable?

I found and tried a regular sizing die since starting this thread, and it irons out the base just fine.

Would anyone have an idea on a die that would work on the ultramag & wsm cases?
Thanks Ron

So instead of ordering small base dies for reloading auto feeders ( yes I have friends that still shoot Remington autoshuckers ), can I run simply run their empties through the .45 ACP die?

Well, I resized some '06 brass that had quite an obvious bulge. It came out looking great, and measures .471 now. It chambers easily in a 742 I have access to. You would, of course, have to try it and see if it works in your friends' rifles. Tef

Which brand of die works, I checked my Lee and it appears the case bottoms out at the neck. Tom

After friend Steve told me about using carbide dies to squeeze the web area of brass I bought a Hornady .45 die and had the top drilled through. My RCBS carbide die would work with my 243 & 7mm-08 brass but was too short to do my 06 brass. Now if there's a problem with even loaded ammo I can run the rounds through and do the magic. My 30-06 brass fired in my M70 is the only brass that benefits from running it through the carbide die but I always run m 243 & 7mm-08 brass through as it can't hurt. Thanks friend Steve for sharing such a great idea.

This definitely works. Rejuvenating necro-threads that are SUPER useful.
I have a SMLE MKiV re-barrel to 7.62, and two pre-64 M-70s in 30-06, along with a 1950s M-70 in 338-06 and same in a 35 Whelen. And then the 270s.....
The Pacific Durachrome TC .45ACP die is open-ended drill through-works wonders.
The real beauty is the non-lube sizing part. A very tight chamber will help, but I have loaded 308 and 30-06 cartridges using the 45 ACP TC size die and a Lyman neck die=works well. This should be considered sticky territory. NOTE: Avoid TC die hard contact with shell holder. Can crack the T carbide.

I thought about this a while back after using a Redding push-through die for .40 S&W. Seeing that Redding did not offer it for .45 ACP made me wonder why. Searches led me to the Lee Bulge Buster, but I did not buy one because I never saw a clear explanation as to how they work. This morning I found a good video showing it in operation, and it also revealed the necessity for a Lee FCD as a part of the setup. I have an FCD I bought maybe ten or twelve years ago, but never use because I just never took a shine to it. I'm glad I kept it though, because I found the LBB for about $15 at FS Reloading. I'll get it delivered to my mailbox for a total cost of about $21.
The description at FS Reloading shows: .380 ACP .40 S&W .41 AE (Use 40 S&W Factory Crimp Die) .45 ACP .45 GAP .45 Win Mag 10mm
IF I find that pushing an '06 case through the die using the next rifle case causes issues such as collapsing shoulders or damaged case mouths, I'll just use a couple of .45 ACP cases to push them through.
I generally have no problems with swelling of the body near the head of the case, but it does seem to be an issue with one particular rifle chambered in 6mm Remington. Maybe I've wasted my $21 as a solution to the issue with my 6mm, but I'll still be able to use it for pistol brass. Hopefully delivery won't be delayed due to all the current BS and I'll know soon if this was a good buy.

Don't buy the Lee Bulge Buster. It's a total piece of crap. I can't imagine what a .45 ACP case would have to look like to even be touched by this thing, every fired '06 based and .45 ACP case I have around here falls through it like it isn't even there, so it won't do the job and I can't imagine it being good for a damned thing.
Also, it does NOT come with the accessories necessary to handle all those different cartridges. They're all separate kits, and that was not at all clear to me when I was looking at the product.
Two thumbs DOWN.
